I've updated my document that tackles four of the common arguments used to encourage teachers to use AI.

I hope this will be helpful to those educators wanting to push back on AI mania.
Resisting School AI Mania Help Sheet
Help Sheet: Resisting AI Mania in Schools K-12 educators are under increasing pressure to use—and have students use—a wide range of AI tools. (The term “AI” is used loosely here, just as it is by man...

today's dystopian scifi prompt is: silent epidemic of unlicensed, out-of-scope, probabilistic mental health care
one of the major uses of LLMs is as an unlicensed, cheap therapist. the people who sell them largely don't think about this fact at all.

For the ed reformers that only care about test scores and not student mental health, safety, security, peace, and joy.
A study of a large Florida school district found that the effects of immigration enforcement on students’ academic performance was concentrated in high-poverty schools. The test score declines also occurred for U.S. citizen students.

Trump‘s people are running around the country, knocking food out of people’s hands.
Breaking News: The Trump administration told states to undo any steps to provide full food stamp benefits to low-income families, threatening financial penalties if the states do not comply. It was unclear how that would affect the program.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Are we starting to see a permanent impact on the economy from the shutdown?

BESSENT: It's getting worse and worse. We had a fantastic economy under Trump the last 2 Qs, and now there are estimates that growth this Q could be cut by as much as half. We could end up with shortages.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

U.K. education has a lot of edtech people like this who refuse to engage with questions on risk or harm. Which you absolutely would if you had ethics.
How can we be feeding student work into a plagiarism machine, how can we say that teachers are so flawed in judgement that they need ai help?

Three questions:
1. Is who politicians follow online newsworthy?
2. Is the vice-president more important than a primary candidate to be junior Senator from Texas?
3. If the answer is yes to the first two, why isn’t Axios doing a fuck ton of stories about who JD Vance is following?
James Talarico, a Texas Democrat running for U.S. Senate who has put his faith at the forefront of his campaign, follows several adult film performers, escorts and OnlyFans models on Instagram, according to an Axios review.

You cannot run the basic infrastructures of a functioning society- healthcare to education-on systems that cut out human empathy & negotiation. So we have to reassert over and over again that the problems aren’t glitches or errors—even big ones. The problems are fundamental, systematic, endemic.

Underrated: “Big companies and investors have a limited amount of capital to spend each year, and they’re putting the majority of it toward building data centers. That means less investment is flowing to other sectors like manufacturing, which lost 3,000 jobs last month.”
The AI Data Center Boom Is Warping the US Economy
Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta, and Amazon are investing tens of billions in data centers. AI infrastructure is now a key driver of US economic growth.
