I talked to my doc students about Dr. Waxman and his passing tonight. Told them he made me feel valued and supported and like I was where I belonged. That a PhD program can be a very lonely place for students, but it doesn’t have to be. That I hope they could find someone who was kind like him. 💔

Randomly thought just now about a guy we knew back in Texas who decided he wanted to take up archery so he got a bow, went to a public park, took aim at a tree, missed, and hit a jogger (who was injured but not seriously).

I got news late last night that my dissertation chair, Dr. Hersh Waxman, passed away yesterday. He was an incredible mentor, scholar, teacher, and friend. He cared deeply for his students and *always* prioritized them over his own agenda. The very best of people.
