This is where I jump in and suggest that every American should read Clint Smith's How the Word is Passed as well as him comparing how we remember American history with how the Germans remember the Holocaust.

My wife, who was born and raised in Germany, can confirm every word of this.

She once said to me: "The problem with your country is that you have no sense of collective shame."
High school teacher Katharina Matro explains how growing up in Germany and learning about the country’s past “made me a more informed citizen, a more politically aware citizen, a more critical thinker.” #FreedomToLearn #HonestHistory 🗃️

Had to have a quick talk with one of the neighborhood boys.

"I know you've been messing with my kid. He's asked you to stop. You're not. Next step is me going to your house to tell your parents you seem like you could use some more attention."

I’m a simple man but I don’t think it’s too much to ask that anyone associated with pedophilia to be disqualified from holding any sort of position of authority for the rest of their life.

I talked to my doc students about Dr. Waxman and his passing tonight. Told them he made me feel valued and supported and like I was where I belonged. That a PhD program can be a very lonely place for students, but it doesn’t have to be. That I hope they could find someone who was kind like him. 💔

I know it's tempting to alas... nevertheless when it comes to slippery Don, but nothing ever matters until it suddenly does. You can only keep telling the truth and hoping it'll sink in for folks. And you never know what drip drip drop will be the last one it takes. Resist the urge to be hopeless.

Randomly thought just now about a guy we knew back in Texas who decided he wanted to take up archery so he got a bow, went to a public park, took aim at a tree, missed, and hit a jogger (who was injured but not seriously).

I know it's been said before by smarter folks than I, but anytime someone talks about IQ, it should send up huge red flags complete with fireworks and a brass fanfare in your head.

I got news late last night that my dissertation chair, Dr. Hersh Waxman, passed away yesterday. He was an incredible mentor, scholar, teacher, and friend. He cared deeply for his students and *always* prioritized them over his own agenda. The very best of people.

What is the most profitable industry in the world, this side of the law? Not oil, not IT, not pharma.

It's *scientific publishing*.

We call this the Drain of Scientific Publishing.
