Trash statement from a trash party. What does 'play their part' mean? Why does anyone who is legally here have to 'earn that right'? How have labour made releasing a statement worse than keeping silent? It's pathetic the state of politics in this country.
“We welcome those who come to this country, legally, and give more than they take. We believe the right to stay here must not be automatic, but that those who play their part should be able to earn that right."

So let's talk about why this sucks. I am so angry and so disappointed, but I also know that a lot of people might not understand why I and my queer friends are feeling this way. Read on for an explanation 🧵(1/14)

There has been a rush among centrists like Gavin Newsom and Ezra Klein to brush over the hateful life of Charlie Kirk and valorize the man.

Let me be clear, killing Charlie Kirk was wrong and abhorrent.

We must condemn murder without sanitizing a man who built his empire on hate.

My latest piece.
We Must Not Posthumously Sanitize Charlie Kirk's Hateful Life
Influential anti-LGBTQ+ activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday. While condemning violence is something most can get behind, sanitization of his hate has gone too far.

🤦🏼‍♀️

And when I say 🤦🏼‍♀️ I mean that the fingers are digging deep into the flesh of my face in an attempt to reach brain matter.

Maybe SHE DIDN'T CONSENT TO BEING MISLED BY A TRANSPHOBE INTO FEELING SAFE TO BE INTIMATE? Send HIM to jail, he's the one whose penis entered another person's body on a lie.

Information relating to the M&S complaint, reportedly from the trans woman whom the complaint was about. Almost everything claimed in recent articles is extremely inaccurate. 1/

I'm quite irritated by people I've seen responding to my initial thread by talking about what the trans people targeted should have done. We shouldn't have to be making these calculations, our use of public space shouldn't be a fucking minefield.
[CN: transphobia, transmisogyny, sexual harassment]

Unworkable rules and impossible situations are the point. They want to make our lives unliveable.

I am one of the 14 authors who chose to leave the Polari Prize, and I find myself frustrated and saddened at the way this entire story has been represented. 1/

Irrespective of how John feels, his words are simply not compatible with an inclusive prize that celebrates all LGBTQ+ people. Just like a racist statement would not be allowed in a prize for writers of colour, or a sexist statement tolerated for a prize for feminist writers. /11

Cis women & non-binary people are being harassed & assaulted in toilets since the supreme court misjudgement. @libbybrooks.bsky.social in the Guardian.

I'm now working on a way to monitor, document and record incidents like these.

Support groups report that women and non-binary people are increasingly being challenged in toilets and changing facilities – but others call it scaremongering

We've added an update to our story reflecting the fact that Eleanor Medhurst and Jane Traies have now also withdrawn their books.

Since some folks are using our story to buy books of thosse who've withdrawn, we'll do our best to continue updating with those names and links.

"Farewell". Really?

Suleiman al-Obeid was killed by the IDF as he was queuing for food in Gaza. Say it, you cowards.

BBC among media misreportimg/exaggerating scale of asylum protests

Median protest is a few dozen, below 100.

"Usually Several hundred at a time" is false.
- should say *occasionally*
< 1/10 protests have 200 people

"Sometimes thousands"
I dont think a single 2025 protest had > 2000 people yet

This 'patriot' protesting against immigrants in Manchester is actually Irish far right thug Paul Rock, who got eight years for tying up and robbing a 76 year old woman. But yeah, just concerned parents.

The latest transphobic media darling showing that, with them, it's never just transphobia.
"Ms Peggie then notes she has a lot of Chinese neighbours and Chinese restaurants on her streets. She says she has “never heard my Chinese neighbours complain” about being called Ch*nkys.”"

Peggie not making a great case she's unlikely to use slurs in front of the people they're directed at.

Hard pass
Starting July 25, Bluesky will require users in the UK to scan their face, upload an ID or verify their identity with a bankcard.

I realize that platforms feel they have no choice but to comply with the government surveillance schemes, but shocking nonetheless.
Bluesky is rolling out age verification in the UK
Bluesky users in the UK can verify their age using their face, ID, or payment card.

Absolutely vile. If you support this then you don't care about protecting kids. You just hate trans people. This is the UK under labour. Don't ever forget it.
Incontrovertible evidence, now, of *police* investigating families supporting their kids with gender affirming healthcare in the UK. For trying to do the best for your child, following best practice in most of the world, here you get a visit from the police.

Thank you, Wes Streeting.
