Remember all my mad book drama?

(If not, buy me a pint and I'll sing you the ballad of the dodgy ex-publisher...)

Well, I'm absolutely delighted to say it's over!

An enormous thanks to my wonderful new publisher @manchesterup.bsky.social

Queer As Folklore will be back in the wild! 🧜🏼‍♂️

The Dickin Medal is the highest award that can be issued to animals in British military service. Bearing the words "We Also Serve" it has been awarded 75 times since its creation in 1943.

Only one cat has ever received the award.

This is the story of Able Seacat Simon, of HMS Amethyst. 🧵 1/25

And they're often the writers that get published, btw. I always tell new writers, if you love what you're writing, your reader's going to feel that. It's the special sauce. Write something you want to read yourself. You'd be amazed at how many people still don't.
Unsolicited writing advice: no. 678:
It's fine to write just for pleasure. Writers who write just for pleasure are still writers. (Also applies to readers, and reading.)

Friends: Sacha, you need to stop looking so gullible and being so trusting and desperate for validation!

Me: ...

Friends: For anyone willing to take advantage you're just such a good mark!

Me: ...did you call me a 'good' mark? 👉👈

So. I went to see Funny Girls in Blackpool last night. (For those that don't know, it's a long running drag cabaret show in England.)

It was fab! But it got me overthinking (pretentious mind dump klaxon) 1/

Very excited. Bought Queer As Folklore by @sachacoward.bsky.social as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend (but also secretly so I could read it too).

The exhausting tension of wanting to be online because you care about the world and want to stay alert and informed but you also don't want to melt your brain and become a complete weirdo to your friends...

On a gay weekend in Blackpool and my run on being picked upon mercilessly by every drag queen we encounter is still unbroken...

Do I win a stick of rock?

I say this often but it bears repeating: if you make your money from creating art then you NEED to find an art or craft where you just do it for fun and don't try to be perfect or make any money from it, and when anyone tells you to monetise it you say 'No', because otherwise your soul will die.
Have needle. Have thread. Have scraps of paper. Have free will. Have made a notebook.

Happy very belated new year.

Christmas book haul includes even more books from @aptshadow.bsky.social and @patricknessbooks.bsky.social and a previously (to me) unknown book from @kurtbusiek.bsky.social :) And I finally got my hands on @sachacoward.bsky.social's book from the non-evil publisher!

Not my biggest reading year ever but I managed to find a few gems and revisit some longer audiobook series. Thanks to @thestorygraph.com for keeping track of it with interesting stats!

One of the cool things about being queer is that in the theatre of life you get to perform on stage but also see behind the scenes...

You know the props are cardboard and the explosions are fake!

When people make grand assertions about sex and gender you know it's all a show.

Well. Project 'pretend to be an adult and profit by making a go of it in the beige place' is so far going about as well as might be expected...

I loved Pagans by @jamesbluecat.bsky.social & Queer As Folklore by @sachacoward.bsky.social

And I really love I Shall Strangle A Horse which is a silly game by @brainmage.bsky.social
A lot of writers have busted their butts all year to publish great fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and journalism.

Consider sharing their work today. Consider what you send people's attention to.

@sachacoward.bsky.social's Queer as Folklore was the perfect Christmas gift for my husband! We both look forward to diving in.

(Now need to figure a way to get Sacha to the Pacific Northwest so he can sign the book!)

I don't think my mum has even met her son (me)! 😬
