Also, when you get your library to buy my book, it's on your library's shelves. A hundred extra people might lay eyes on it a week, in person, and pick it up on a whim. How many books that you love have you stumbled across just because you liked the cover or saw it in a library display?
Libraries purchase books. When you see a book at the library, it isn’t “free”

the library bought it.

which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.

Really excellent article on the various themes explored through ✨cannibalism✨ in modern media! Yay! Fun!
It's chic, it's tasteful, and it's dominating the literary landscape: cannibalism. Readers are hungry and author @wenyilee.bsky.social examines its relationship to revenge, exploitation, and desire 🥩

My latest for @hyperallergic.com looks at a late Roman shipwreck (ca. 320 CE) found off the coast of Mallorca with over 300 amphorae. A ton of implications for understanding early Christian trade and of course … garum 🐠 Thanks to @hakimbishara.bsky.social for edits! hyperallergic.com/1056159/near...

Starmer does not want to be held responsible for any decisions - so he ducks making any decisions.

Instead of leading, he maintains the status quo, or lets decisions be made by the courts/ advisory bodies, so he can point elsewhere and say it was “their fault” come election time! 😣

Its decision to leave the Tory appointees in post at the BBC is one of so many Labour have made that I can't begin to understand. Any guesses?

Well... bollocks...didn't realise MSPA was still re-uploading all the pages of Homestuck to make it accessible again. Today I reached the point, around 7000 pages in, where we are presumably getting daily updates.😐😑😣 Fuck. Slow updates were why I didn't finish first time 'round *vibrates worriedly*.

I’d rather be let down by the Green Party actually *trying* to make our lives better because at least you could say they’ll have a go. We’ve been let down by Labour deliberately & intentionally making life in Britain harder & making crap excuses for punitive political choices
EXCL: The Green party is offering “simple solutions to complex problems” and making “undeliverable” promises to voters ahead of next election, PM's chief secretary Darren Jones tells me 👇

Now, by the standards of Asterix comics, we all know this is just short-hand for a secret orgy, right? Riiiiight? (I swear, as a kid I thought all orgies involved debauched cheese fondue shenanigans until I was wellll into my teens).

Genuinely, a corporate death penalty would be an appropriate remedy in many regulatory incidents.

Imagine a situation wherein no individual is found criminally liable for a massive harm to the public by a corporation. Automatic death penalty, since it organized itself to dissolve responsibility.

Welp, sorry Steam, you're just gonna lose my custom then. I've never had a credit card. Never want one, and ain't gonna be pressured into getting one either. Until the UK unfuck their current stupidity, I apparently won't be able to purchase games from you. 🖕🤬...

Politicians in government are utter prats. The Conservatives looked like fools when they banned face-sitting & Labour are equally imbeciles for trying to make strangulation illegal. All this from a misunderstanding of consent/safety measures within kink communities & elitist bedroom policing. 🤬

As well as the pinnacle TTRPG gun nerds among us who are just here for a real good time! (i.e. working out stats for sandwichkind as weaponry in our next campaign - but in a completely tactical and realistic way 😋).
The delightful thing about social media is that BOTH the gun nerds AND the TTRPG nerds are in the comments.
It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.
