"A harp made of bones, they say, will only ever play a single song."

You can't beat an opening line like that. Check out the rest of this quietly disturbing tale, up for #awardsconsideration, here:

A Single Song by Nico Martinez Nocito
A harp made of bones, they say, will only ever play a single song. Haunting, my listeners called my melody, and beautiful. My fingers glided over the sinuous strings and my voice, the harp’s voice,…

I love how this story weaves in and out of reality and creates an entirely new one, depending on what the reader brings to it. I can see a couple of different perspectives on this one.

We Sang Water into Lemonade, on the Eve of Summer, In the Wasteland by Robert Luke Wilkins
We passed the last dandelion by late morning, and by noon, the grass had faded. Nothing grew in the gray, aether-swept deadlands beyond the city’s eastern wall. “I should bring Martha,” said Ma, he…

"Jing scrunches her lips to one side. There’s a market for bad memories, but it’s crawling with unsavory characters chasing sick and degenerate experiences. But Michiko’s eyes are unwavering."

Nifty premise w/an ending I didn't see coming!

The Futility of Warning You by P.A. Cornell
The moment I return from the future, all I want is to talk to you, but so much gets in the way. First the debrief, with endless hours about what I saw, the analysis of the recordings, and the tedio…

Within the text of my latest piece is the phrase "vaguely animose".

Animose is not a word. No idea wtf my brain was on.

Freebie if anyone's looking for a band name.

So exciting...
New squishy emojis instead of ones from a 1990s chatroom.

When you use one, it slips into the end of the "frequently used" aisle. Every time you use it subsequently, it moves up a notch. Over here cheering for the little underdogs

...why no, I don't get out much.

👏👏👏

Again for the people in the front row. Yeah, you, with the popcorn
I noticed whenever a show/movie decides to have these quiet, introspective moments like in Eternals, The Acolyte, or even Andor, that’s when people decide to call it “slow” or poorly written. It’s like no, you’ve just conditioned yourself to see action moments as the only valid thing.
