My most woke opinion is that the whole point of society is to collectively help each other. My taxes should be going towards housing and feeding everyone. No one should be without food or shelter. Rich people should be contributing more towards this. It shouldn't even be controversial!

I mean the thing that Summers resigned over is directly admitting that he was pressuring students into sex (while making racist little jibes about her!) in an email to his notorious paedophile buddy. I do wonder how one could not be incredibly embarrassed to run this kind of pedantry in this case.

i try not to get too upset about the way the attention economy moves because i know i do it too but the federal goons never left. they went from 10 raids a day to 1-2 because they don’t have the capacity to do this shock and awe campaign nationwide. but they’re still here
People have largely tried to act like ICE/CBP failed and retreated from LA and that is completely untrue. If it weren’t for the relentless coverage of places like @lataco.bsky.social these stories would be completely under the radar.
ICE has been raiding my neighborhood and surrounding ones for the last couple of weeks now. They commandeered my local church (against the pastor's will) for a staging site and raided supermarkets, parks, Goodwills, bus stops, you name it.
The national media's been silent. So has @mayor.lacity.gov.

Love this thread. I also find that the search isn't for The Best Idea, it's for The Idea That Excites The Author Enough to Get Them Writing—and since what idea is exciting differs from author to author, we get the vast, wide open field that is modern literature
I've had a few 'what do you do' convs recently, and everyone on hearing I'm an author comes out with "so how do you come up with ideas?", just like every book or movie about a writer has them staring numbly into space because they don't have an idea for the next book. And look, that is Not It.

kindergarten just sent out a reminder about not sending kids to school with an active fever and informing the school if your child has a contagious disease so they can inform other families and "the authorities" and uuuuuuh I am not a fan of what this might imply
