Dawn breaks over Marblehead 🌅
These ridiculous mega-projects like "datacenters in space" (doomed by thermodynamics) make a LOT more sense when you realize they're massive Ponzi schemes designed to transfer wealth from pension funds to VC's through "fee stacking."

It's the old Assets Under Management con. It should be illegal.

"datacenters in space" is SO stupid that I feel like it's like a cry for help, like those seven tech dipshits on the group chat whence this sprung are saying "please, take all this money away from us, it's nothing but trouble, we can't handle it"
I’m but a simple country theoretical physicist, and I can say, in my professional capacity, “datacenters in space” is so colossally, monumentally stupid that it is difficult to know where to start with which laws of physics the idea is spitting in the face of the most.

Regulatooooorrrrrssss… part 107
People don’t understand that stripping the guardrails of regulation and oversight doesn’t just apply to like better business bureau type shit but also like on a practical level when I get into an elevator I expect that it has passed a safety inspection & that type of security will be gone soon

We're like five generations into modern feminism and women still have to assume that when you ask a colleague for feedback on a project, there's a good chance that he and a sex criminal will snigger about how it's evidence that you want his dick

Also they have made up a racist nickname for you

Generative AI, in both form and content, and whether looked on favourably or critically, seems to embody a collective hopelessness about the prospect of human learning and creativity, if not human knowledge altogether. It’s as if climate change had fans.

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.
"Jones, 27, is among the residents left at 7500 S. South Shore Drive who are trying to piece together what remains after an early morning, high-powered federal immigration raid led to the arrests of dozens of their neighbors at their South Shore apartment building."
Massive immigration raid on Chicago apartment building leaves residents reeling: 'I feel defeated'
The Department of Homeland Security said federal agents with Border Patrol, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested 37 people in the raid.

Dig deep enough into any well funded crapass movement against human rights and you’ll hit oil.
Excellent reporting from Heated and Atmos.

It looks like some of the biggest investors in the anti-trans movement are fossil fuel billionaires who are trying to use trans issues to ensure that Republicans pass policies favorable to their industry.

Fossil fuel billionaires are bankrolling the anti-trans movement
An investigation shared exclusively with Atmos and HEATED finds that 80% of anti-trans organizations receive fossil fuel funding.

This is a very problematic stance. Population growth is only one component of the ecological crisis. A much more substantial problem is the fixation on economic growth to support wealth hoarding. The focus on population growth hits the poor more than the rich, when they are the least of our problems

Last week, Boston received a letter from AG Bondi threatening to prosecute officials and withhold funds unless we cooperate with carrying out mass deportations.

The US Attorney General asked for a response by today, so here it is: stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures.

I have never seen anything like the NYTimes reaction to Momdani.
Mamdani’s salary has him in the middle-income band as a single person, per NYC’s housing dept. His wife’s income isn’t public but he’s around 130% of AMI. That’s a level that eligible to apply for some of NYC’s affordable housing lotteries. This is not in the article.

As Zeldin speaks, the heat index at the bottom of the screen is showing parts of the country hitting feels-like temperatures of 121 degrees. Extreme heat is a leading cause of death from climate change, a toll that will increase as CO2 levels rise.
Zeldin: "EPA is proposing to rescind the 2009 Obama EPA endangerment finding to eliminate all of the greenhouse gas emissions regulations that followed."
