President @ucs.org. Previously: USDOT, White House OSTP, @500womensci.bsky.social. Environmental engineer. Mom. Cyclist. Public Transit Enthusiast. Views my own. She/her.
Seeing the "last day at [federal agency]" posts today from amazingly talented people who took the Administration's 2025 buy-out is devastating.

Regardless of what the White House thinks, know that your expertise and your skills are so valuable and desperately needed in this country, my friends.

We’re closing out a year filled with unprecedented attacks on science, but the pushback is growing. Hear from UCS President @gretchentg.bsky.social on how UCS and the scientific community are standing up for science:
Ask a Scientist: How Is the Scientific Community Meeting This Moment?
UCS—and scientists generally—are uniquely positioned to resist democratic backsliding. Here's how.

A year ago, I was advancing climate change research and policy at US DOT. Now, I lead @ucs.org and work to carry forward that vision, defend the progress we've made, and build a brighter future for all. May 2026 bring us all progress towards a safer, healthier, and more just world. Happy new year.

It is hard to overstate how wildly inappropriate it is to replace a National Climate Assessment--A process normally involving hundreds scientists, significant public and expert input, and US government-wide coordination--with five climate skeptics using AI.

It’s the gold standard of US climate research. Contrarians could write the next one.
Researchers who have downplayed the threat of global warming have been asked to author the next National Climate Assessment.

I'm concluding a great week at #AGU25! Great to catch up with colleagues past and present and I am energized by the way the geosciences community is showing up in this moment when our work is under threat. Even with near term setbacks, I'm confident our future is bright.

🚨 Late breaking update! 🚨 We'll be joined by @neguse.house.gov, who will be giving brief remarks on news of threats to NCAR during this #AGU25 session at 5:30 CT in E-2. Join us!
At #AGU25 and concerned about news of NCAR dismantling?

Join us today 4pm CT. We'll cover independent science action and discuss the key science functions we need the government for--like the critical functions that NCAR provides on weather and climate research.

The Trump admin intends to dismantle the National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), one of the US' leading weather and climate research institutions.

We must urge Congress to halt this dangerous action immediately.

In times like these, when our government is trying to suppress dissenting voices, I'm grateful to lead an organization that is independently funded by @ucs.org members, not beholden to government or corporate dollars.

Help us preserve that independence this #GivingTuesday.

The Trump Administration has abdicated its responsibility to ensure the public can make science-based health decisions. If the government can't do this job, we must find other ways to bring science to the people.
November 20, 2025 at 2:48 PM
On scientific topics, especially in public health, federal government webpages have been a trusted way for the public to find reliable information.

A CDC webpage with disinformation is dangerous in the short term and erodes public trust in science in the long term.
