can the next big term that gets treated like 'abolish' and 'defund' where it's not the exact right term to use to beg for table scraps, be 'expropriation'

this word feels like it is crackling with electric power right about now
i have been a bit worried about outer-borough actions but with strong enough networks i hope we can help each other
I was thinking they would have a harder time in New York because of population density. Once ICE shows up to pull its garbage, there could be 30 New Yorkers there in a minute and 200 there within five minutes. It’s not like Los Angeles, and even Los Angeles was pretty responsive.

we are going to win
Today there was an attempted ICE raid in Bensonhurst & community members showed up. Even though NYPD collaborated with ICE by trying to disburse the crowd; community members stood their ground & ICE left without kidnapping a single person per the rapid response groups I'm on. We protect us!

And almost nobody has "cancer money” of the type you need when it’s really serious
which is why I’m increasingly skeptical thinking about how the idea that wealth is protective (which it is…until it’s not) causes us to overlook how ind. wealth, not Bezos wealth but like median white wealth,
i've half-joked about how you aren't actually rich until you have "cancer money", or enough that you can pay for treatment *and* be out of work for however long *and* maintain your or your family's basic quality of life (ie, not having to liquidate core assets like your primary residence).
James Van Der Beek is auctioning off ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and ‘Varsity Blues’ merchandise to pay for his cancer treatments.

I’ve been thinking (thanks to a well-timed @keeanga.bsky.social question at an online event) about how the idea of “wealth” is itself serving as the individualized “solution” rationalizing destruction of social supports.
“wealthbuilding” not insurance, not benefits, not pensions, not public housing

It is EXTREMELY way past time for people to stop saying "the economy" when they mean "the stock market."

The stock market is fully divorced from reality. It does not represent anything meaningful about the actual standards of living.
one factor in the Harris loss was the Democratic party bragging about the great economy when it was actually complete garbage outside the artificially juiced stock market, and I don't expect that tactic to work any better for Trump esp with a much worse economy

My dog: *hits bong* I'm telling you man, if you eat peanut butter it will make vet happen.

Neighbor dog: That's crazy. Peanut butter can't make vet happen.

My dog: It totally can! I had peanut butter yesterday and then a couple hours later, vet.

Neighbor dog: That's just a coincidence.

Martin Scorsese has been an invaluable force in an industry that has, since its inception, been utterly callous in its disregard for its own artists. Scorsese learned about what happened to Georges Méliès and vowed to not let it continue. His work as an archivist and advocate are unparalleled.

Remember that Intuit (the owner of Turbotax) lobbied extensively to kill Direct File, which did tax filing for free and somehow managed to make a good and intuitive user experience without AI.
TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.

it is almost as if accommodating and conceding to far right ideas legitimizes them and signals to voters that the far right is a legitimate choice for governance
The Danish Social Democrats are currently on course for their worst election result since at least the Second World War, despite their brand of far-right accommodationism being touted as a blueprint for other centre-left parties.

Two things can be true: 1.) The Game Awards are meaningless and we shouldn't take them all that seriously. 2.) Award shows of its scale DO rewrite the mainstream history of the art form, whether they deserve to or not, and its okay to care that it's so thoughtless despite having that responsibility.

the world that was stolen from us is difficult to even imagine, for folks living now

the cheapness of rent, the ability to support yrself and yr ambitions, or to go to school, on a single low wage job

the sustainability of life that we haven't had in generations
there were periods where you could have a part time service job that covered college classes and rent! so often i'd read about artists in the 60s and 70s who also paid for studio spaces they could stock with supplies, who had the leisure time to party and create their great works. robbed, i tell ya!
