Okay so three different people asked to take a picture of this piece when I brought it in today for critique and grading - I think that’s a good sign?

I had to sleep in the bed I was raped in for another two years, getting dressed in the mirror I looked into as I was being raped, getting showered in the shower I sobbed in after I was raped.
Most of us don't get to suddenly get some kind of distance from these violent acts. We have to live in it.

People getting mad at rape survivors for talking openly about getting raped is a time-honored tradition. My Mom always tried to redirect conversations about my rape because it made her uncomfortable, made her a bad parent in her mind.
