the Mountain Goats - Through This Fire Across from Peter Balkan (Full Cassette Playback)
YouTube video by the Mountain Goats

The Mountain Goats have released a version of their new album on youtube - a video camera, pointed at a tape deck, playing it next to a fire.
As a fan of old school Goats, mostly I think this method doesn't produce enough tape noise and needs to sound worse, actually.

Uhm, what happened to Sarah Kendzior, @support.bsky.team? She is the one who was among, if not the first one to warn about Trump.
Yo, @support.bsky.team, bring back @sarahkendzior.bsky.social.

This makes my skin crawl to read. Just so deeply embarrassing out infuriating. Print this out and mail it to your reps. Read it to them on their voicemails. They all need to feel unimaginable shame until they finally grow the collective spine to - at the very least - call for new leadership.

SNAP embarrassed him. So now he's against SNAP. SNAP is now the James Comey of government assistance programs.
President Trump criticized the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during a Fox News interview tonight, saying people "get it automatically now so the number is many times what it should be, it's disgraceful."
Trump says "we can reform" SNAP
"SNAP is supposed to be if you are down and out," Trump said on Fox News this evening.

It's so cool that sitting US senators can talk about how they want all Palestinians to be murdered and vote to do it and if you post about throwing a tomato at them the Feds show up at your door because that's apparently a threat but trying to do a genocide isn't
Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

A reminder that according to Fetterman's own former staffers, Fetterman had a meeting with J-Street president Jeremy Ben Ami in which he told Ben Ami that he believes Arabs are like a "carton of sour milk" and that we should get back to killing.
"Kill them all" Fetterman is reported as having said.

The historian in me feels the need to note that contests between cities and their rural hinterland are not new things and they do not generally go great for the rural folks.
California alone produces a third of all the food America eats. So this is a lie.
But let’s break down the food produced by the red states:
Guess what percent is harvested by people from Latin America?

Red states produce the bulk of our meat, true—though California still produces 8% of American beef.
But the red states’ role as America’s breadbasket is LONG gone. Most red state agro-economy has been redirected from human-grade food to commodity feedstock.
And much of that is on federal welfare.

It goes even deeper than this. The vast bulk of red state agriculture is corn, soybeans or seed crops.
And most of it is not for US human consumption! We export 20% of our corn, half of our soybean and seeds. The rest?
Most of it becomes oil, animal feed or….ETHANOL.
The subsidized fuel additive.

Half the fruits and vegetables in the US come from California, 75% of the nuts. The flyover states like to pretend they do much

Guess where the huge majority of the taxes that go toward buying those crops come from?
That’s right: Blue states.

And no, they’re not doing it “to be nice.”

Going to repeat this every time I see the GOP "plan":
I have kidney failure. I require dialysis to live. Three times a week every single week. It costs $1000 per treatment.
So either they need to give me a MINIMUM of $156,000 a year...or I'm going to die.

I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

PS: In the thread above, I assume "HSA" means "what an HSA meant when GWB introduced them", IE a tax-advantaged health expenses account paired with a high-deductible insurance plan. Listening to Rick Scott and others, they now seem to be advocating HSAs with *no* insurance.
That means "people die".
That means "people die".

Which means attempting to fix the entire society's health care costs with HSAs falls apart completely. Putting EVERYONE on HSAs would mean a nightmare world where the ultra wealthy get tax assistance for their healthcare costs and everyone else faces huge deductibles every year—George W Bush's dream

If you're young & healthy and you get an opportunity to get on an HSA, they're a super great deal! For you. But each healthy person on an HSA makes the system a bit weaker because they're opting out of risk pools—until they get less healthy, at which point they switch away from the HSA the next year

Republicans are starting to talk about HSAs again so I want everyone to be super clear what a non-solution HSAs are. They work for a very limited range of people. If you have under $100/mo health costs, or tens of thousands of dollars a year, they can work. Have moderate ongoing costs? You're fucked
