In Oct 2024, I was hospitalized. I have kidney failure and require dialysis, and it was months before I learned to walk again. Before I got Medicaid, I maxed out every credit card I have to pay for medical transport and groceries. Any help you can offer to pay down the debt is appreciated.

You know this is because everyone mocked the hell out of them that one year where everything was black and white and looked like a bad knockoff Tim Burton set.
Apparently the White House holiday theme this year is "Christmas in the Matrix."

lol remember when they were pretending you could make GTA6 "In 6 months with a team of 10" and AI would handcraft you five Oscar-worthy films daily with single-sentence prompts

Now it's "This jiggly AI slut never says no"
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

A key takeaway from this charade: university admin has one mission, and that's to protect the university (which they view as themselves, not the faculty or students), no matter how many principles or people it must burn to do so. No amount of professionalism, competence, or service will save you.
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

This was handed in for a PSYCH CLASS & when the prof said she didn't use empirical sources but rather submitted op-ed she whined about religious liberty + prof got suspended.

I was a *Religious Studies* major; in my time she would have been rightly BBQ'd had she dared to hand in this absolute drek.

As the evergreen phrase goes "if they couldn't be bothered to acrually wrote the thing why should I bother to read it"

I don't care that a "Thing" exists, I care about what it is and how it came to be

The whole point of making is to put a bit of yourself into it

This get your bag mentality isn't
“People don’t have a choice if work makes them use A/I”

I refuse to use A/I. I voice that on any project I touch.

If you’re making “A/I dubs” of animes, you’re the same as a scab during a strike.

Just because it keeps YOU secure, doesn’t mean you’re absolved from the damage you’re causing others.

I can't say why, but I feel justified about something thanks to this.
I've noticed there's been growing interest in vintage animated shorts by younger gens. Kids with no attached nostalgia seem to love old Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies, Silly Symphonies, and Fleischer shorts. I think it might be an instinctual rejection of AI coupled with meta pop culture burnout.

It really is precisely the inverse of how much work you actually are doing
The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy

I am old enough to remember when the unis forced everyone to return to the classrooms during covid, refused to allow anyone to take a gap year, and endangered us all because they wanted the rent money. But I guess they have a new scam now. Won't even need students soon!

There's an old story about a guy who hired a freelancer to do something that took them only 15 minutes to do.

"Why am I paying you $100 for just 15 minutes of work?"

"You're paying $10 for my 15 minutes of work and $90 for the 20 years experience that let me do it in only 15 minutes."
I'll keep repeating it til' I'm blue in the face - making comics is actually an exceptionally difficult task. I'm quick as hell but each page I draw represents about 10-20 hours of work from writing to final output. I deserve to be paid for that work.
