I hate gatekeeping in any genre; the answer is never to ridicule someone for not knowing about how a genre works, the answer is to say, "OMG I'm glad you loved that book! Have you read THIS one? It'll blow your socks off!" (See also this classic xkcd: xkcd.com/1053/)

I'm so glad my Duolingo fluency score of 53 in French allows me to parse out a bit of AI-generated Holocaust denialism. I'll be going back to scanning Le Monde headlines for stories about movies and pop stars, thanks ...

If I may present an alternative opinion on cloud outages:

Occasional short reminders of fragility in centralization and smoke-testing of our societal systems with effectively inconsequential events, is important.

There is going to be day gigaoutage culminates, due to lack of minoroutage warnings.

I’m so glad none of my regular listens (mostly horror lit, WW1 history, and the Wrong About cinematic universe) made it onto this very bleak list
The list of eligible podcasts is looking pretty bleak 😟

Why would AWS change the interface for their WAF console right before I give a presentation on how to troubleshoot site issues using the console? And why would they make it much less useful? Ugh.

What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

There were a lot of good records in 1985; I think "Hounds of Love" and "Rain Dogs," about as opposite as they come, stand out as complete documents of ... something.

Not just a rosary, a COMBAT rosary - instead of the "Glory Be," you shout "HOOAH", and instead of crossing yourself, you pound your fist on your chest. The crucifix is .50 caliber, compatible with your favorite Desert Eagle.

Watching the @nunkie.bsky.social live broadcasts of an M. R. James story is one of my favourite holiday traditions.

I buy tickets for my family in Wisconsin so we can watch together from opposite sides of the Atlantic.

I hope you'll join us!

I'm not going to read the NYT story but I do want to hear what other people would put in their "Lost New York" takes, mine would include Dr Zizmor ads and the free transfer between the Broadway G/Lorimer JMZ stops

This is a BONKERS movie, and if you haven't seen it you should treat yourself! It's free on Tubi (where all the truly unhinged classics live), so you've got no excuse. Watch it for the malls and the hair and the fashion alone ...

Yesterday my little monster book broke into the Top 1000 Kindle books. I think this was for the first time ever? It hit #977. I was so grateful.

Today the sale is over, but it ROSE to #644.

The only reason is word-of-mouth of readers. It's been a tough time lately, and I can't thank y'all enough.
Yooo! Someone You Can Build A Nest In was picked as a Kindle Gold Box Deal! For today only, get it for just $4.99.

A shapeshifting monster *accidentally* falls in love with the woman who's hunting her. We've all been there, right?
