real talk I don't think the Andy Pages swing at Clasé's deliberate ball was that bad. He got fooled by a slider! Later in the at bat he got his bat on another slider in the same place (and grounded out weakly)! Hernández's swing on the final pitch was worse!

very interesting thread. sounds like it might be the classic "center squeeze" issue with RCV, where a consensus second-choice candidate, who'd win any election head-to-head, gets too few first-choice votes to survive round 1

[assuming Fateh voters largely preferred the other candidates to Frey]
I am still so mad about this that I broke out the colored pencils, so I could do a little RCV explainer. Something is seriously wrong with me that this is what I am doing with my Saturday night, but here goes (a thread):
We wouldn’t need center left orgs if we had progressive electeds and orgs that took seriously the shape of our electorate, how RCV actually works, & were serious about beating Jacob. Either they don’t understand how the shape of our electorate plays out in RCV or they don’t care about beating him.

Really helpful thread explaining something I will admit I hadn’t understood about ranked choice voting:

I think a number of press outlets badly want there to be a groundswell of anti-trans feeling, because the ownership/senior editorial of those papers have absolutely cooked their own brains on transphobia. It seems to be largely an elite psychosis!
the harris campaign said the “they/them” ad didn’t sway the election.

one of the trump campaign’s top strategists this week said trans rights isn’t in the top five issues for swing voters.

when will the press stop talking about us like we’re a liability and start looking itself in the mirror

@jfruh.bsky.social's suggestion that Hagar might write a book called "Horrible, and Profitable: What Today’s Leaders Can Learn From My Years Of Terror Around The North Sea Littoral" set my mind a certain way. then I had to avoid the obvious rhyme for "littoral"

Mamdani embodies a pro-Palestinian politics that truly distinguishes between the state of Israel and the Jewish people, and truly takes antisemitism seriously as its own problem. That makes him a threat to those who want to absolutely conflate antisemitism and anti-Zionism, whether the ADL or WoL.
The pro-Palestine group Within Our Lifetime has already decided that Zohran Mamdani has sold out the pro-Palestine cause... by condemning swastikas drawn on a Jewish day school in Brooklyn. forward.com/culture/7822...
Mamdani's first statement on antisemitism as mayor-elect got some weird pushback
After someone spraypainted a swastika on a yeshiva, Zohran Mamdani condemned antisemitism. Somehow, this generated conspiracy theories.

Sandwich verdict wasn’t jury nullification. It was failure to prove the required “reasonable fear of physical injury” in a case where the agent was wearing A BULLETPROOF VEST. The only crime was the waste of resources on this case. My thoughts in @MSNBCDaily.

Opinion | The sandwich thrower was wrong. But Jeanine Pirro was, too.
To establish a forcible assault, jurors were required to find that Dunn caused “reasonable apprehension of immediate bodily harm.” That allegation was laughable.

All my life I was told I was Jewish, I was stopped by Hasids on the streets asking me to wrap Tefillin, I was invited to Jewish holidays from strangers, etc.

The ONLY time I’ve been told I’m NOT a real Jew is when I criticize Israel.
