on a slightly closer read this piece suffers from the same malady as every TCW piece: he is incapable of dealing with the substance of a thing. the most relevant thing to him is that jan 6ers and george floyders *sounded the same*, the substance of what they wanted is irrelevant. this is stupid.

this whole paragraph is an exercise in the pose of knowingness, and illustration of how making being "more reasonable than the extremists" the whole core of your intellect leads inexorably to believing in nothing at all
This paragraph especially!

If I understand him right, he's saying "moral clarity it good" and the right has been utterly immoral so it might sound weird to criticize moral clarity. HOWEVER, because the left is bad [unspecified reasons], "moral clarity is an obstacle to insight." ???

I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

it's been hard to put this feeling into words, but we've spent the past couple of decades being lectured to and patronized by an elite class that spent its free time joshing with jeffrey epstein about his little sex abuse empire while lecturing us about how out of touch we are

Two modest proposals:

Start calling people who are paid to have particular opinions sophists again.

Stop sharing, writing for, and participating in anything to do with the institute for arts and ideas (dunno who funds it, but what it's doing is putting a *philosophy* shine on reactionary thought)

mild correction: the word "Gotcha!" did not sneak in from another strip, it is Ditto's line/sound effect as he chases Dot wearing an alien mask

(DARK did sneak in from another strip and I'd like to know which one)
in a typical case of AI Overview bullshit, this is not true. It was Lois who needed fresh air. The word "Gotcha!" snuck in from another strip thanks to some mangled OCR (www.newspapers.com/newspage/846...). And it wasn't a fan-made strip...

no see using these photos would be beneath the Times, which would never take material from a dubious source, unless it was, say, hacked documents showing that a guy born in Africa had put 'African-American' on his application form for a university he didn't get into. You know, something important.
Can we circle back to the part where the NY Times never disclosed that they have incriminating information on Donald Trump from sent by Epstein that's been sitting on their email servers for nearly a decade?
Stuff like this makes me wonder why there hasn't been any reporting about Trump having affairs during his presidencies

I am fine with this policy, particularly as applied to threat-like things that are clearly not meant to express an intention to commit violence

(actual threats that do express an intention to commit violence are prosecutable, not just bannable)
"bluesky will suspend you for anything vaguely resembling a death threat" is maybe the single most consistent moderation policy they have I don't know why anyone is surprised by this one

yes, even if it's a reference to song lyrics

The important corollary to Trump2.0 pulling strings to get BOP to move Ghislaine Maxwell to a minimum security camp is Trump1.0 pulling strings to torture Michael Cohen

They’re dangling sweeteners & commutation in front of Maxwell but there’s also an implicit threat

this is absurdly offensive, there are a lot more reasons to think Summers is sincere here than insincere, and this should get you drummed out of intellectual society.

It’s not just that Trump is personally a rapist, though there’s lots of credible evidence to suggest that he is. It’s that he is promoting a fundamentally pro-rape ideology, and that the permissiveness for rape and entitlement to rape that are core to his worldview are central to his appeal for men.

An analysis of news pieces about Trump’s anti-trans decrees found that “70 percent did not include a quote from a single trans person. Instead, journalists turned to cisgender sources — mostly government officials — to speak about trans people, their lives, and how they would be affected.”
