xeyes is a program mysteriously included on Linux systems. It draws a pair of goofy eyes that follow your mouse around the screen. Originating at SIGGRAPH in 1988, to some it is just for fun; to others it represents Big Brother.

Scotsmen: We Told You So
this is a subject that's near and dear to my heart

1. no you didn't, you retconning fucks

2. your decades of anti-governance "free market" "government never functions" propaganda paved the way for the complete authoritarian decimation of labor, consumer, environmental protections

At the borders of Minneapolis there are signs saying “Speed Limit 25 (Within city limits, unless otherwise posted)”

If your car has automatic sign recognition it will think the speed limit is now immediately 25, even you are going down the freeway at 65 😬
My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

as you know I'm an anti-genAI ultra but, at the end of the day, I'm still a person, right

so anyway several friends sent me the results they got from that "draw me based on the interests you can find on me" ChatGPT prompt so I thought oh, go on, as a one off

The couple in the halftime show really got married!

They hadn’t met before but we’re pretty sure it will work out 🤞

Donald Trump has turned America into a violent fascist kleptocracy. But the NFL just forced some culturally unfamiliar music upon me. I have never felt more politically homeless.

It’s not voter ID. It’s much worse than voter ID. States would have to check the documents for millions of voters by November- which is realistically impossible.
This bill would require anyone registering or renewing their voter registration to show a passport or birth certificate AND “show their papers” when they vote. More than 21 million Americans have neither of these documents readily available.

I’ll probably get crucified on here but I have a fairly fancy system of scripts for attempting to write a novel using only LLMs. It is a lot of fun to play with. Also the resulting books are garbage. Writers, you have nothing to worry about.
I have yet to see any evidence that there is a market for AI-generated books outside of people being tricked into thinking they are not AI-generated books. AKA, it is a project of scamming and deceiving people, and really should be treated as fraud

I mean it’s a ridiculous idea. Corporate America pushes workers out at like…55 maybe. Physical jobs are impossible if you’re older. Older people need more than the 5 sick days that average jobs give you these days. Just about the only people who can work in old age are politicians.
Asking people to work longer is asking the people who *most* need to retire to work longer. College educated folks already work longer than those w/ less education, largely bc they have different types of jobs & health profiles.

The GOP is reneging on a key part of our intergenerational contract.
Why Dr. Oz wants you to retire later
Mehmet Oz says Americans should get healthier so they can work an extra year and boost the economy. That’s hard for the poor and less educated, who tend to retire earlier.

Realistically the best thing any of us could do for the country is move to a small town, get involved in the local GOP primaries, and support candidates who are… you know... not insane

Not it
