This reminds me, more than anything, of the inside of a mechanical clock

Bizarrely, the hotel interior itself kind of looks like a giant quantum computer
November 11, 2025 at 2:50 AM
The hotel I’m randomly staying at happens to have a quantum computing conference going on, and has a model quantum computer in the lobby

I’m at Kubecon this week. If you’re here, track me down! I have TCP/IP notepads to give away

Here he is trying to justify it. In his mind Biden imported 30 million people. CW racist garbage

Kalshi bettors seem to think this deal to end the shutdown will go through

They'll do that if the government lets them

Which band are you seeing

And that’s just for people. Your brain is a lot worse at recognizing animals and objects.

That one’s probably somewhat obvious. But now let’s make one with distracting elements

Notice how I obscured her hands on purpose - it’s STILL bad at hands

Ok, I bought a 4-pack of these. Not just because of the unique story, but because they're actually the only smart bulbs I could find that are small enough for one of my fixtures.

My light bulbs now each have a web management interface, and debug logs.

Polymarket betting odds for “when will the shutdown end” have shifted dramatically after today’s elections

Ok occasionally Republicans are funny

Most states follow the federal income qualifications for SNAP

There are some differences between stats - eg some states won’t allow you if you have over $5000 in assets. Good luck keeping your car so you can go to a job.

Republicans love to claim people on SNAP are buying tons of soda and chips and other junk food

The evidence is that it’s not true

Their spending is pretty similar to average households, although less on fruits and vegetables because they can’t easily afford them
November 4, 2025 at 7:52 PM
Minorities are overrepresented, but not that much

40% of SNAP recipients are non-Hispanic white compared to 59% of Americans overall
November 4, 2025 at 7:40 PM
The share of government spending on SNAP is growing significantly as more people sign up and benefits increase. It’s still a relatively small fraction of the budget overall.
November 4, 2025 at 7:31 PM
While the rules around SNAP are almost the same in every state, the states vary dramatically in how easy it is to sign up. One way of looking at that is the number of pages in the application which varies from 2 to 21. It doesn’t really follow red/blue lines.
November 4, 2025 at 7:26 PM
SNAP participation grew substantially during the pandemic, and hasn’t yet declined to pre-pandemic levels.
November 4, 2025 at 7:19 PM
Those who don’t work mostly are disabled or are taking care of someone else.

The caretaking responsibilities part is particularly important because it’s way cheaper to spend $200/month feeding someone so they can take care of a family member than for society to actually pay someone to do it.
November 4, 2025 at 7:13 PM
Most people who aren’t children or elderly and are on SNAP do have jobs. Nearly all are in a household where at least one person has a job.
November 4, 2025 at 7:10 PM
Some facts about SNAP:

SNAP is not adjusted for inflation. Instead it’s based on the prices of a specific basket of goods. One of the better things Biden did was revise the basket of goods to be slightly more realistic- but I’d guess it’s still pretty far off from how nearly everyone eats.
