Heads up that if you're on LinkedIn, and are based in either Europe, Canada, or Hong Kong, you have until the 3rd of November to opt out of having your data scraped for genAI.
One week to opt out or be fodder for LinkedIn AI training
: Nations previously exempt from scraping now in the firing line

The reason its an “echo chamber” is because individual people are allowed to control the people they see. The algorithm is not going to force people’s opinions at you.

This is a good.

We are so used to algorithms forcing stuff on us that we don’t remember what its like to curate our own space.

My contribution to this week's free-fare discourse:

Studies consistently show that eliminating transit fares does not reduce urban driving or pollution.

On the other hand, providing faster and more frequent/abundant service can absolutely achieve those goals.
Free Public Transit Is Not a Climate Policy
Dropping the farebox on buses and trains can boost ridership and ease inequality. But the environmental case for making transit free is less clear.

Dear Mr. Clegg

I have started a business, selling the contents of your house

I knew when I launched I did not have legal access your house

Without this access my company will not be profitable

Others have told me I have a flawed business model, but I disagree

Please advise how I should proceed

Very proud that Canada who is quite well renowned globally for being polite and over-apologising as a stereotype, have shown that if bullied they will tell you to fuck right off.

It’s horrifying that it’s come to this, but as someone with a deep affinity for Europe I feel moved seeing that continent come together to try to save itself in the absence of any meaningful aid from the totalitarian regime that’s in the midst of taking over the United States through an illegal coup

Your regular reminder. COVID-19 is an endothelial disease

It damages your blood vessels

All of your organs, including your immune system need a supply of blood supply

Covid blood vessel damage to your immune system makes it more likely to get other diseases. Like the Flu
Outpatient visits for flu in the US last week were at their highest in at least the last three decades, including the 2009 pandemic.

This is clearly a once-a-decade bad flu season or worse.

Somebody yelled at me for posting about Ganymede instead of /the state of things/ last night.

I know we’re (almost) all on the same page here, but a Bluesky without cute cats, science facts, and dumb jokes would be bad for everyone.

I'm just going to keep pointing out these small* moments of collective action until it starts to click with folks that if we stand together we have all of the power.

*this is actually a huge fricken deal, and it only took a couple clicks from a bunch of folks who collectively said No Fucking Nazis.

I had a walk today and thought about the relationship between civility, discomfort, and abuse.

Some of you know that “civility” is one of my hard “ugh” triggers. This thread will explain why.

Hey, just letting you know that adding „before:2021“ in Google image search will get rid of all the genAI shit.

It’s not perfect, as everything ‘21 and later will get omitted, but for reference like „horse“ or „person kneeling“ it works great. ✌️💫

The slow trickle of MAGA folks over here underscores how much their experience of online is entirely dependent on people getting mad at them. It also underscores how even they, given the option, would rather not hang out with themselves either.
