I think most artists hit a point where they’re like, well if I can’t be the best artist, I shall be the most ME artist.

Congratulations to Seattle on becoming the new New York, taking some pressure off old New York while we figure out what we’re gonna be
Seattle’s new wave of progressive leadership has taken on national visibility. Its newly elected mayor, Katie Wilson, has embraced comparisons to Zohran Mamdani, the democratic socialist mayor-elect of NYC.
Progressives Win in Seattle, Changing Directions on Public Safety
Voters ousted a mayor who oversaw a surge in encampment sweeps, and a Republican prosecutor who pursued punitive policies toward homeless people and drug users.

Happy make-believe birthday to Diana, born on this fictional day in 1971. A richly contradictory creation, libertine and controlling, earnest and secretive, oddly fun, neighbor to the abyss, beautiful and strange.🖤

That in our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold, greater than the might of atoms, magnified a thousandfold.

We can bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

We are a social species, and we have always prevailed through cooperation. Caring for our sick. Raising children we didn't sire or birth because they were part of our village or extended family. We are not breeders and predators, we are communicators and survivors. We evolved to UNITE.

I’m going to write an opera about Rossini’s friend Jerry, who slipped on a banana peel off to the left an instant before this famous photo was taken
“Give me a laundry bill and I will set it to music.”
The great Gioachino Rossini died on this day in 1868. Here, our editor picks his ten greatest works:

The only thing a 15-year-old is “barely legal” for is buying a ticket to a Spider-Man movie
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

One of the many reasons we have to fight the rise of the far right is the risk they pose to undoing the progress we *have* made.
Lot of people are already passing this around with the usual "WHY ISN'T ANYONE DOING ANYTHING" shrieks, while ignoring the fact that the article literally says that this is a *significant* decrease from the warming that we were on track for even a few years ago.
World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds
Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.
