I will say over and over again that us library folk need to be louder in our support of the Post Office. Because guess what—if they start thinking of USPS in terms of“making” or “losing” money, libraries won’t be far behind.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Donate to the Otherwise Award to support scifi/fantasy that explores and expands our ideas of gender -- and to support paying for more work than we used to, because we want to make sure that we are fairly compensating the people who make the award possible.

(I sit on the board.)
Otherwise supports the very sort of fiction that we need today more than ever: visions of possibilities through the fog of the present. Please donate otherwiseaward.org/support-us/d... to our year-end fundraising campaign:

A very good reminder for World AIDS Day that Dave Grohl is actually a horrific human being, in case you didn't know!
I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl.

Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

This story about Ruby only cements my opinions about how AO3 needs to be redesigned from the ground up. And knowing the culture of the OTW it is not surprising they would gravitate to a programming community with the slogan MINASWAN

I'll give you the short version: they sponsored & supported the most influential AIDS denialist group of the 2000's, resulting in national policies in South Africa that caused an estimated 330,000 deaths there.

They have never apologized or acknowledged what they did.

AO3 authors: If you get a spambot comment on a story, AO3 has a specific reporting path that lets them get rid of your spammer in hours rather than weeks. Turns out that following these steps REALLY WORKS.

The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

every single one of my SW friends is disabled. being able to set your own hours, work more or less depending on fluctuating pain levels, and not work for 8+ hours straight are all vital accommodations and few jobs allow them; of course disabled people often choose SW. being anti SW is ableist.
People really think the primary connection between disability & SW is disabled clients. But a disproportionate number of SW are disabled ourselves. You only don't know that bc it doesn't fit the stereotypes that claim disabled people aren't sexy & SW all look the same

HOLY SHIT. They found the genes for fibromyalgia - and it's *not* autoimmune, it's the central nervous system. It's very cool to see some progress made on the thing that's ruined my life since late teenage years!

idk the NYT called up ms rachel to ask if she was funded by hamas so i'm not sure the NYT exactly has impeccable judgment on what makes a whole news story
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.
