Herding cats until the waveform collapses.

Mostly harmless, but do note that both my grandfathers killed fascists. GenX. Слава Україні. Meese is still a pig.

Why Edmonton for #Worldcon?

Edmonton is as welcoming, safe, and diverse as it is dramatic and exciting. There are plenty of things to do, from top-notch restaurants to rugged wilderness and urban oddities.

Looks like quite a few other Beacon Hill / South Seattle schools, daycares and elementaries are also going to "shelter in place" due to ICE activity. If you're a parent at work, check your messages to see what the kids' status is.

We knew Washington's turn would come eventually.

it is -10 here today. I was supposed to go do a volunteer shift standing outside loading groceries into people’s cars to deliver to families stuck at home. just got a call not to come in because they have too many volunteers already. if you were wondering if the cold would stop us.

Attempting to sew warp ikat fabric for the first time. Just some easy, dumb pajama pants, so it should be okay.

It's just... so... stretchy.

people don’t care as much about prices when they are being occupied by a paramilitary, disappeared to concentration camps, shot in the face three times, or having grenades thrown at their children as they drive away from ICE
NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.
Zero Chucks Left to Give
Chuck Schumer now sees a path back to the majority. Can he manage his way through it?

If you work for ice please understand that your kids will laugh at a character based on you dying in an action movie before the end of the decade. They’ll be in movies for really little kids. Like Phineas and Ferb shit. There will be an action figure of you with a detachable head

you know this guy is a FOR REAL photographer because he's telling the story of his brutal, unconditional arrest by federal goons and can't help but slip in a gear review
Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

There are no two Star Wars films that I'm more excited for than Taika's movie and the Lando movie. Not only because Taika Waititi and Donald Glover have very distinct styles that Star Wars should embrace, but because they both have a shot to make the SW movie of my dreams.

I need them made so bad.
Kathleen Kennedy discussed the status of Taika Waititi’s #StarWars film and Donald Glover’s ‘Lando’ with Deadline:

“Taika has turned in a script that I think is hilarious and great… Donald Glover has turned in a script… I think the ones by Taika and Donald are still somewhat alive...”

This is your reminder that Hungarian-Jewish scientist George de Hevesy dissolved two Nobel Prizes in aqua regia to keep them out of the hands of the Nazis.

He then left the dissolved solution on his shelf and fled to Sweden.

(After the war he un-dissolved the gold and the prizes were re-cast.)

Measles outbreak in Western Washington.
A family from South Carolina brought their measles infections to airports, ferries and various locations in Washington state.

The health department says that they didn’t know they had measles.

But this is why unvaccinated people are a danger to communities, not just themselves.

I hate the Nazgûl’s treatment of the hobbits as much as you do but the security of Middle Earth is critical in this age. I believe we can strike a balance between the rights of Shire residents and black land border enforcement with proper training and funding.

2. I don't know what is wrong with my brain but I think I like this performance better than Chappell's.

It gets a lot more Star Trek-ish after the first 10 thoroughly off-putting minutes. There are some nice touches. I think there's hope.
Watching the new Star Trek Academy. It's brutal and the Federation is fascist and if something Star Trek-like doesn't happen in the next 5 minutes I'm writing it off. I hate this.
