that the Whos celebrate Christmas suggests some knowledge of Christ, but whether this is our anthropic Christ or a distinctive Who-Christ remains obscure; some have argued Christianity was introduced to them during their refuge with Horton, which of course turns us to the matter of Elephant Religion

The maga divide summarized: does the gutter racism that is the mortar of our coalition apply to Jews or not? And if it doesn’t do we mean that or are we just pretending for the moment?

Correct. It is about labor power within white collar professions. Can the associates tell the partners they don’t want to be hit on at the holiday drinks party? Everything flows from that.
The entire american "free speech" panic was about elites being criticized, which is why anyone who ever took it seriously should be ignored forever
Freedom of speech, in the liberal ideal, was about limiting the power of the elites.

Now, in this twisted form, it is about forcing us to listen to elites and silencing the masses.

The way people are being vile and rude to me is actually unacceptable and is disproportionate to what is in reality a very mild critique: that symbols outlive their usefulness which is why different political factions want to alter them. One of those factions is successful while the other isn’t.

It is also unambiguously true that the White House is a symbol of oppression and suffering for a massive percentage of the world

I think most people making fun of the provocative essay about public architecture are doing so because they are yokels and a provocative essay in a small publication frightens and confuses them. The sort impressed by the Sokal hoax, who volubly prefer figurative paintings, that sort of thing.

Yeah, the problem with what I guess I'll call Ezra Klein-style liberalism is that it holds that ideas work like tokens that do not have any inherent moral valence, you can trade them and exchange them and they do not actually say anything about the person holding them
if you ever, at any point, thought marjorie taylor greene was maybe secretly a good person get your instincts checked

If I ever have a child, they'll be forced to follow in my footsteps: go to the no name state school that offers the biggest scholarship
I cannot stress this enough: if you or your child or you on behalf of your child treat admissions as a validation exercise rather than what amounts to a lottery you are begging for a massive hit to your ego. No matter how exemplary or impressive an applicant is it's just numerically punishing.

Going to the Lego store with my heaviest credit card. It’s a celebration. Everyone in the store gets a Star Wars set on me.
Everyone's out here talking about what they'll do on The Day It Happens and I'd just like to say, think of the children!

You gotta make sure they can get in on it too, so buy some sparkling cider or something for them. It's important that we all celebrate together.

I understand that Hanukkah is not actually an important religious holiday, but it is a really cool historical event! I accidentally know about it because of our popular culture and I want there to be movies and video games and stuff about it.

It’s fun to do Avatar discourse when an Avatar movie comes out. Because everyone has forgotten it by the time the next one comes out because they are incredibly masterful movies that captivate audiences but they aren’t any good and nobody cares about them 6 weeks later.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

Not important but Stephen Fry is the perfect model of a British pseud. As or more interested in the performance of wit than the substance of knowing. The former redounds to the performer, the later demands solidarity and humility.
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

My nuclear hot take is that every car should have an interlock device, even with no history of DUI. No concerns about disparate applications or "wealth extraction".
The California ACLU is staunchly opposed to the ignition interlock device program and is a big reason that it has not been expanded. Despite the fact that California heavily subsidizes the cost for low-income drunk drivers, the ACLU says that the program is a form of "racialized wealth extraction."
