This is Maria, a 6-year-old detained by ICE last year.

She began to unravel soon after arriving at a detention center in Texas, wetting the bed after years without accidents, crying through the night and begging to breastfeed again.

Most of all, she wanted to be reunited with her cat, Milo. 1/

This I think is a big part of the appeal of AI to the oligarchs. Not that it will replace labor or raise profits in general, but that it will specifically replace the labor whose autonomy impinges on them personally.

There's a weird amount of Newsom glazing that comes from people who are unfamiliar with California politics and I can assure you that a hypothetical President Newsom would be the American Keir Starmer
Gavin Newsom is enough of a charmless dolt without the righteous hatred in his heart that he doesn't have much hope of surviving a primary. He'll eat shit in a debate with some mealy-mouthed bullshit that misreads the public hatred of the right and that's how we get someone better.

It's pretty simple, you can care about preserving free curbside parking or you can care about housing costs, homelessness and climate change.

One day NYC will catch up to the urbanism of Missoula, MT
Last night, Missoula, Montana notched a HUGE zoning reform win. They achieved:

1️⃣ Shifted single-family only zones to 4 to 12 homes per lot (depending on zone)
2️⃣ Reduced minimum lot sizes
3️⃣Eliminated (❗) parking mandates citywide (‼️)

...And more!

Every person running for local office should be asked, “Are you brave enough to undermine the sanctity of a parking space?”
Encourage folks to read the Jordan’s full thread for context.

Bike backlash is happening in cities throughout the country so a similar meeting could have happened nearly anywhere.

We need to elect more folks ready to lead on addressing climate and health, including when that impacts parking.

The problem with Prop 13 vis-a-vis the state budget isn't just that it cratered property tax revenue, either. It's that a budget so heavily dependent on taxing income and financial asset wealth is inherently volatile. We have a system designed to make long term fiscal planning extremely difficult.

“Catholic schoolgirl” was an extremely normalized trope sexualizing underage girls. A common punchline.

I never received more sexual harassment from grown men, in my life, than when I was walking to school in my uniform as a 14 year-old. Mostly suburban men catcalling from their cars.
It's hard to overstate how NORMAL it was to sexualize teen girls when I was growing up.

"Jailbait" jokes were everywhere, I was constantly sexually harassed by men in cars when walking to school in 6th grade.

Epstein is of an cohort where it was GENERALLY maybe a little edgy but not extreme.
I need people to understand that it’s not just Epstein, it’s the entire rape culture that existed before and after him at every socioeconomic level. That’s why Epstein, who I’ve never thought was particularly smart or interesting, was able to pull this all off—he recognized how abuse functions

Republicans spent decades screaming "End abortion." Then, when they had the power to do it, they basically did!

The policies that govern how we get from place to place are usually immune to partisanship. This administration is using them to advance Trump’s authoritarian agenda.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.
