"For far too long, common sense improvements like bike lanes, sidewalks, bus lanes, or outdoor dining have been held back by the Coastal Commission's strict interpretation of coastal access, meaning exclusively driving to the beach” said @michaelschneider.com

Santa Monica law could bypass Coastal Commission for housing
New legislation sponsored by Santa Monica would allow coastal cities to approve housing and transportation projects without California Coastal Commission permits.

Hey Caltrans better not to ignore elected officials & advocates all asking for the same thing:

Build 3 blocks of protected 🚲 lanes connecting Ohio to Ohio during your repaving project

You CAN do this but are refusing to. No more excuses!

“A growing chorus of elected officials representing Santa Monica are pressing Caltrans to stop treating bike safety as an afterthought and instead deliver a long-planned protected bicycle connection at the same time it repaves Santa Monica Boulevard.”

While Westside officials are pushing Caltrans to add some needed bike infrastructure, their logic contradicts the City of L.A.'s efforts to dodge implementing Measure HLA.

“Moments of genuine crisis require leaders willing to make tough choices. Cities that build housing do so because they declare it a top priority and align their institutions accordingly. Cities that hedge and delay quietly sabotage themselves” @jessezwick.bsky.social

Just like we improved traffic after widening the 405, right @laxairport.bsky.social ?

Why do reporters just parrot LAX’s propaganda? This project — according to their own EIR — will make traffic worse!

Why are you letting it proceed Mayor Bass?
