I wrote something with @futureis about how LA has basically stopped maintaining its streets.

At this rate, the city is going to be one big pothole in a few years, and we’re going to spend more on settling lawsuits than fixing streets.

Contributor: You're not imagining it. L.A. has surrendered to the potholes
To avoid a legal obligation to make sidewalks accessible, the city stopped repaving streets in July and doesn't plan to resume.

“$150 for delivery so I ordered the chair for pick up instead”

Props to Crate and Barrel for having a bike pick up option

Amazing what you can do with an electric cargo bike and a Burley utility trailer

If I could show the world a single video to convince people to try an e-bike, it would be this one.

Take your time back!

A pedestrian is injured every 5 hours in Los Angeles. When will people be sick enough of this status quo to demand that the city redesign our streets around people instead of cars?

Nothing makes me happier than biking with these three. Oh, and CV Link is awesome.

Everyone complains about driving in LA — the traffic, the parking challenges.

For any trip under 5 miles (66% of trips each day), it’s the slowest, least efficient, least convenient, least joyful mode of transportation possible.

I got inspired by my experience today picking up groceries at Whole Foods — and motivated to write this by the electric Hummer that pulled in next to me as I was leaving.

Some thoughts on picking up groceries using a bicycle:

Picking up groceries on a bicycle
When I started in the advocacy world, a common retort to putting in bike lanes and to biking in general was “but what about picking up…

No, you don’t need a car to pick up groceries. You just think you do.

Apparently Whole Foods has never heard of someone picking up groceries on a bicycle

Councilwoman Traci Park held a Venice town hall yesterday; here’s her joking about putting “spike strips” to deter people riding bikes in Venice. She then said that she “wasn’t kidding”

I wrote something about the current state of L.A. infrastructure, politics, budget, and how to give Angelenos the world class city they deserve:

Last week I went to San Francisco and Sacramento for work. Thanks @mobilityforwho.bsky.social for putting together a fun video featuring my very multimodal trip: biking my @bromptonbicycle.bsky.social to the airport and putting it in the overhead bin, using BART @sfbayferry.com and @amtrak.com!

Even by LA standards, this project is egregious, and undercuts the billions @metrolosangeles.bsky.social has spent on improving transit to the airport.

We never learn; amazing that right now the city is moving full steam ahead on a project their own EIR says will make traffic worse!
The city is about to spend $2B+ to make traffic *worse* at LAX. We could do so much with that money, but instead we’re about to light it on fire with a freeway-style interchange in front of the airport, undercutting our transit investments.

Take action:

For the one on the left there is limitless funding and political support to expand and improve.

The one on the right is running on 1920s technology, gasping for basic funding, with little political support.

Our country’s transportation priorities are backwards.
