(As someone born and raised in MN and now living in SF) I'm very surprised by the cynicism surrounding Waymo. The technology is amazing - as a pedestrian/rider/driver I feel far safer around them than with rideshare drivers, or California drivers in general. They'll definitely be manned at first.

I actually think this is exciting! AVs are safer than human drivers in climates without much snow. I hope with sufficient testing that they can be safe in snowy places like Minnesota as well.
Someone on the Minneapolis subreddit caught Waymos being delivered. We need the City Council need to ban the use of driverless cars. The technology isn't there. Our city cannot be a testing ground for 1.5 ton autonomous projectiles.

Mayor-Elect Kaohly Her understands the issue - the BEST way to get property taxes under control and solve our fiscal challenges is to grow our tax base, build more housing, and make it easier to get a permit.🏘️

Thank you @kaohlyforstp.bsky.social, we look forward to supporting you in these efforts!

Well, if you want to win, sometimes that’s what it takes."

4th graders in Mississippi are more proficient at reading than those in Minnesota despite the fact that we are twice as rich, spend 45% more per student, and are 57% more college educated.

Heracles was a union man and that’s canon.
it’s neat that we have a holiday to commemorate the labours of Heracles.

it’s pretty hard to choose a favorite from the twelve, but I was always impressed by his slaying of the nemean lion with his bare hands.

Heracles was so strong! wow!

Sustain Saint Paul is joining the Vote Yes for a Fairer Saint Paul campaign to create a better functioning and more equitable city.⚖️🏙️

Administrative Citations will give us the tools we need to hold accountable absentee landlords, shady bosses, and other bad actors. 🧵
🧵 🙌 Proud to join unions & other community orgs to launch the Vote Yes for a Fairer St. Paul campaign!

🗳️ This November, St. Paul voters have the opportunity to pass Administrative Citations — so corporate landlords & greedy bosses can’t keep breaking the law without consequences. (1/3)

Yeah. It’s happening here.
This is a real photograph of Washington, DC this week, where the United States president has ordered military occupation in peacetime, and ordered the display of colossal portraits of himself.

This is a great thread and maybe the only person I've seen who has concerns about the CBRC overturning the Minneapolis DFL's endorsement while also engaging honestly with their findings. Max's point about the reasons for the remedies not being properly explained is well taken.
The most importance sentence in the draft findings regarding the Minnesota DFL convention is the one stating that it was not necessary to show that the outcome would have been different, had DeWayne Davis appeared on the second ballot. That's important for two reasons — so buckle up for a thread.

A PRIORI, (1) The Minneapolis DFL endorsing process rarely endorses anyone who isn't such a front-runner that they'd win with or without the endorsement. (2) It's detrimental to the party unity needed in statewide elections. (3) It's difficult and expensive to do right. BUT THIS YEAR, a mixed bag.

We need a city council and mayor who will upzone all our new LRT stations (and others). And, importantly, help lobby the state to change its shoreland rules, which are extremely stupid and incompatible with urban life.
All the stations need much more density. 5:1's are so 2015

Today, the St. Paul City Council passed a resolution celebrating 50 years of District Councils. These organizations build community, connect neighbors, organize voters, and celebrate participation in Saint Paul's past, present, and future. It was also Everett's first city council meeting.

This is the correct take. There's a special tragedy to St Paul's downward spiral that the DSA left, the ossified Save Our Summit right, and even the city's planners don't understand or are simply unwilling to face. A 🧵
Bottom line is there is a need in St. Paul to work with private developers/capital as unsavory as that may be, as the tax base is currently not there. This cannot be magicked away or ignored.

The Park Board and the BET shouldn't exist.
This is an important point to think about with park board. It has skewed far more conservative than the rest of the city’s voting record
The Park Board is so important & in recent years has been dominated by a more conservative faction. Chances of that ending aren’t high, especially with the progressive favorite in District 4 dropping out. Hopefully I’ll find the energy to activate folks toward more balance over next 5 months.
