It seems to me that his logic would require rejecting all automation. ATMs, booking/shopping on websites, goods made by robots, looms, calculators, etc. How are self-checkouts and self-driving cars different?

I think he used to be a blogger for The American Prospect. Not sure what he's been up to since.

(As someone born and raised in MN and now living in SF) I'm very surprised by the cynicism surrounding Waymo. The technology is amazing - as a pedestrian/rider/driver I feel far safer around them than with rideshare drivers, or California drivers in general. They'll definitely be manned at first.

I agree

Seemed to work out pretty well in '08 and '12 lol. He even sounds the same.

Once a vice like marijuana or gambling are legalized, capitalist forces become stronger and stronger at preventing any regulation. This is why I think it is really important to maintain the post-prohibition "three-tier system" that limits the vertical consolidation of the alcohol industry.

Absolutely. We should strongly regulate and tax vices. It was clearly better when you could basically only bet on sports in Nevada. Unfortunately the Supreme Court fucked that up.

Minneapolis should probably first try to figure out how to solve homicides, which they've been abysmal at forever. My guess is that the lack of community trust is a big contributor.

Horrific. FYI he is a minister not a priest.

Really appreciate your dedication to this project! I always look forward to a new episode.

I believe we can tease it out of the data (though I understand why you disagree). I'm also admittedly biased as someone who has worked and volunteered to turn out voters for DFLers in CD4 since 2004.
October 1, 2025 at 1:28 AM
I'm sorry if how I've interacted with you has felt dismissive. I, like you, really want the DFL to keep winning so I think it's important to ground these discussions in data.
October 1, 2025 at 1:20 AM
The DFL hasn't lost a statewide race since 2006, so it must be doing something right.
October 1, 2025 at 12:49 AM
If that is true then why do you think turnout fell more in CD5 than CD4 from 2018 to 2022?
October 1, 2025 at 12:41 AM
While CD5 produces more raw votes for the DFL than CD4, the number of votes that it has been contributing has declined from 2018 to 2022 and 2020 to 2024. I'm comparing off years and presidential years separately.

So many people on this site seem more upset with Ezra Klein and Hakeem Jeffries than Donald Trump.
