I used to be a night owl, but as l've gotten older, l've become more of a person who doesn't function at any time.

"It must be so nice getting to cuddle puppies and kittens all day"

(I spent seven years working in animal shelters and got this ALL the time)
“So you just read books all day?”

Usually immediately after handling a death threat or cleaning bodily fluids
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

I accidentally stopped at a gas station like this once, and I have never gone back. Like no I actually don't actually want to watch extremely loud ads while standing in the cold waiting for my car to fill up. I'd choose the ones where I have to actively hold onto the handle the whole time over that
Little TV screens at the gas station pump blaring ads directly in your face as you spend $70 on a tank of gas is enough to radicalize a person

It's that time of year! The time when deer guts start to undergo a magical transformation!

(Also the time of year many well-intentioned people accidentally mess the whole thing up, leading to dead deer!)

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?

I’m very very tired of “living in fear” being lobbed at maskwearers by people who frequently say they can’t wear one because no one else around them is.

Living in fear is ignoring science and endangering lives and your own health because you’re terrified of not fitting in.

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

The fact that protests now feature people who don’t normally have to worry about what might happen to them in an adverse encounter with security forces is a HUGE DEAL.

It means that the “real” victims don’t have to suffer alone. It means that some people care about something more than themselves
Someone in my mentions is upset because these people haven’t suffered the worst at ICE’s hands and therefore they shouldn’t be praised for being out on the streets?

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.
Portland, you magnificent weirdos

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.

My personal timeline is full of autistic people trying to explain that there isn't more autism than before, it's just that we're better at detecting it, and there's nothing more autistic than hoping explaining something at length will help matters when nobody is really listening.

I very much just recommend just going for the one-time purchase option for microsoft office stuff unless you need the subscription only features. It looks expensive, but you'll pay more than that over time with the subscription anyway, and one-time purchases don't include their garbage ai features
“Microsoft says its Agent Mode in Excel has an accuracy rate of 57.2% in SpreadsheetBench, a benchmark for evaluating an AI model’s ability to edit real world spreadsheets.”

I work with a lot of spreadsheets and slightly better than a coin flip is, um, not an acceptable level of accuracy.
Microsoft launches ‘vibe working’ in Excel and Word
Vibe working is all about Office’s new Agent Mode.
