INBOX: Rep. Thomas Massie, who has enraged Trump for his insistence on blocking tariffs and releasing the Epstein files according to the law, just issued what is widely known among Chinese dissidents as "a declaration of no suicidal intent" (不自殺聲明), a sign of extreme distress.

It's going to be wild when Paxton gets the GOP nomination in Texas, loses in the general, and the Dems miraculously grab a 51-49 lead in the Senate in November . . .

. . . and then Fetterman switches parties in December.

A shutdown for the Department of Homeland Security appeared certain Thursday as lawmakers in the House and Senate were set to leave Washington for a 10-day break.

Social Security Workers Are Being Told to Hand Over Appointment Details to ICE
The recent request goes against decades of precedent, and puts noncitizens at further risk of immigration enforcement actions.

Germany already has access to US tactical nuclear weapons under existing agreements. As in Luftwaffe aircraft can and will drop a Hiroshima sized bomb on your armored corps.

This looks like France offering nuclear weapons in the same way for the same purpose in case US weapons become…unavailable
uh, German nukes??!

In the 70s, Sharp had a series of "Latte case" boomboxes; as the line went on, more and more got put into it, like TVs. One of the last in the line was the RatecaPuter - a latte-case boombox with a 2KB computer that could run SHARP Basic programs off of the built in tape deck.

In my experience, most of my (native-born) American friends think the immigration system is somewhere between Feivel in "An American Tale," Cousin Balki on "Perfect Strangers," and Gerard Depardieu in "Green Card."

The current ICE surge is forcing them to learn that it isn't so
In other words, "what Americans think about immigration" is, if you take it literally, a null category. They don't think anything about the reality of immigration because they simply do not know the reality of immigration. They can not have opinions on things they do not know.

Yes and no. There's suburban sprawl like Long Island, where the sprawl also had a racial component (Leavittown, famously). That existed early on in NoVA, but by the early 90s the counties involved were majority-minority/no-majority counties.

Immigrant communities in DC/NoVa/MD are suburban!
The word is "suburban sprawl", Spock.
February 13, 2026 at 5:47 PM
The NoVa suburbs are diverse and vibrant in ways that inner Arlington and Alexandria often aren’t because the rent has not priced out the kind of small business and communities that make a place vibrant and diverse
Some really dismal land use here in old suburban Manassas, Virginia. Look at the small townhome blocks that back onto the rear of the very long strip plaza.

Yet this area is also home to a multitude of small, local immigrant-owned businesses. It's opportunity, too.

“But you need to PAY for JOURNALISM!”

The Journalism:
For those of you keeping score at home, the actual cut to the Post newsroom was 45%, not the widely reported one third. Remaining journalists are a bit over 400, down from around 1100 four years ago and 580 when Bezos bought the place.

I use these kinds of glasses displays with a Steam Deck if I’m on a plane and it rules. I have a prescription insert for mine.
I have these glasses as well (I am a tech nerd, sue me). No cameras attached, just a big imaginary screen floating in space in front of you. Not bad for having a big screen experience without lugging an actual big screen with you.
I really like my Viture XR glasses. They’re not practical to wear as regular sunglasses, but they’re very useful for using your electronics in public places without anyone seeing your screen.

Also very useful for those of us whose near vision is going.

Part of what makes this so insane is that Michigan and Ontario are essentially one big manufacturing complex together. If the border shuts down, assembly plants in Brampton, ON and London, ON halt because of no parts from Detroit. Sub-assemblies in Michigan depend on inputs from Ontario & vice-versa
Remarkable: Trump's deranged threat to block the bridge connecting Detroit to Canada is backfiring, giving Dems a big issue in 2026 races in Michigan, which could help decide control of Congress.

Michigan Dems tell me they'll use this against Republicans big time:

His corrupt threat to block the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge is about to become a big albatross around the necks of GOP candidates in pivotal Michigan.

The History Channel loves to be like “did Hitler store 10 billion dollars Nazi gold in this Pennsylvania house?” and answer that question as demonstrably “no of course not” and then make 18 seasons of “Pennsylvania Hitler House”
