This is a democrat who fundamentally refuses to understand why the republicans beat us so goddamn often

Bipartisanship is dead and the base knows it

They say everything we do is bad and socialist and we’re like “well he’s good on THIS thing” and THE DISCONNECT
Some Democrats hate that their party is largely positioning itself in opposition to the operation that resulted in Maduro's capture.

"Everything Trump touches must be bad according to the base," one House Dem told @axios.com

Said another: "It looks weak." www.axios.com/2026/01/04/m...

#1762 Trump's Imperialistic Shakedown of Venezuela
Imperialism is best thought of as a "Wealth Pump," extracting wealth from one country and depositing it in another. Venezuela has wealth and wealth is the only thing Trump cares about, his willingness...

It's illegal for the president to relieve student loan debt. It's completely fine for the president to unilaterally decide to have the head of a foreign nation black bagged on foreign soil.

Anyhow, the people who insisted on campaigning on the Cheney endorsements must be pleased that we’re getting some large-scale Cheneyism.

“Our standing” ?

The US government has been invading sovereign nations, committing war crimes, propping up murderous dictators, torturing people, mocking human rights and ousting democratically elected leaders for decades, under both Democratic and Republican administrations

We have no “standing”
Trump has burned our standing to ash. After this, we cannot condemn Putin in Ukraine or block China from Taiwan. Power without law is rot. The light we claimed for democracy is shattered. This was the straw that broke us. We have entered the darkest reflection of ourselves. #TrumpRegime

Depending on how long Trump drags this out or how many other countries he decides to illegally invade we might also be in store for someone in 2028 saying, "Can't change horses in midstream."

Veteran New York Times national security reporter David Sanger says what Trump is describing in Venezuela is an "American occupation."

The whole thing about Trump as the "anti-war candidate" got started by establishment Democrats trying to "own" progressives who criticized Clinton's hawkish legacy. "Oh, you're going to vote for Trump then..." From there the canard that anti-war voters supported Trump got wings.

I don't know why people believed otherwise, tbh. When in history has a military sided with the people? Truly?
So, this should finally put to rest any delusions that there are decent people left in the US military who will stand up to illegal orders and protect democracy. The US military is now more likely to kill US citizens rather than help them. They are not our friends.

I wonder if anyone has actually polled “how badly would it play if our opponents ran ads saying we were soft on Maduro” or if this moral cowardice is purely instinctual on the part of Democrats.

I’m represented in Congress by Ayanna Pressley, Elizabeth Warren, and Ed Markey. I just called and left voicemails with all of them not because I don’t think they’ll have the right opinion on this, but because I want them to know that *real* action from them and Congress is critical.
