This is disgusting, and dehumanizing, and unfortunately coming to damn near every platform you can think of. Multilingualism isn’t an inconvenience to be “solved” by technology. We have to push back.
Discovered today that Instagram had turned on (without my opt-in) automatic AUDIO translation of any reel that shows up in my feed not in English USING AI TO MIMIC THE SPEAKER’S VOICE and WOW it was creepy and upsetting.

You can turn it off in “Language & Translations” in Settings. 🙅🏻‍♀️

Call your senators and fight like hell, but also, if you don’t have already have a passport, try to get one ASAP.
I read the Trump-backed voter suppression bill, the so-called “Save America Act,” so you don’t have to. Here’s my summary. Please tell your Senators to vote NO on this abomination: 202-224-3121. TY. 1/

In the SkyClub, 2 people next to me asked the Salvadoran bartender about how much better his country is since Bukele “cleaned everything up”. I had a quick interaction with them about the concept of “safer for whom”, & one said “oh like MN”. Heartened that some normies are making the connection!

Y’all really shocked that a Bay Area girl whose dad fled political persecution in China, a queer girl from Texas, and a Philly Italian-American girl aren’t here for this bs? They represent the best of us!
I am extremely proud of America's Olympians for speaking out against this regime. And for these ladies doing their own thing shamelessly.

Trump publicly called one Olympian a loser for speaking out. None of them spoke against the nation; Just shameless abusive leaders

The Daily has a guy falling over himself to say that ICE is right & people need to stay out of their way. But his underlying issue is he’s a mason whose wages have been lowered by exploitative practices. If we could get guys like to blame corporate greed instead of individuals, we’d be halfway there

In Santa Clara. Outside of San Francisco. In the state of California. Who the hell do they think gave these names to these places?
Absolutely delicious.

Now dare NBC caption Jay-Z at the Super Bowl and not Beyoncé!?!? She was right there!

Even worse because Hailey Bieber got her own caption next to Justin immediately after!

There’s a conversation to be had about how if we truly respect people’s rights to do what they want with their bodies, that also means they can knowingly engage in sports that carry risk without everyone being paternalistic about it, but I don’t think y’all are ready for that.

This and the results of the fact that we barely even started Reconstruction.
so much of our present misery is just a giant, prolonged backlash to integration

Team USA looks like Ralph Lauren went to Norway for inspiration and then created a Christmas collection, but it's not that bad! I'm here for Erin Jackson and Chloe Kim and all the kids who grew up here being told by people like Trump that they didn't belong. They're what makes America great!

Imagine telling someone in 1993 that the film Cool Runnings would cause us to witness Snoop Dogg interviewing the Jamaican bobsled team in Italy in 2026! What is this timeline!?!?

It's bad enough to have to see Vance on the Opening Ceremony...just fervently praying that no one has to look at Trump's mug in my beloved Los Angeles in 2028.

I put this Opening Ceremony in my calendar as an event weeks ago because it’s my favorite event if the Olympics, and if these outfits aren’t fire I’m gonna be so mad.

Didn’t we have that whole thing where we threw a bunch of tea in a harbor because we were sick of paying taxes to a king who only cared about enriching himself?
Every president from Nixon on released their tax returns, but Trump -- who insisted he would follow that custom -- repeatedly refused to do that. So finally they were leaked, showing he paid only $750 in 2016 and nothing in 2017.

He's now demanding all of us, who *did* pay our full taxes, pay him.
Donald Trump’s frivolous $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over his leaked tax returns, if he were to win or get a settlement, would be paid entirely by U.S. taxpayers. trib.al/eiYvT8m

If you’ve ever been to a Dodger game, you’ve seen that this is an absolute fuck you to their hometown and fanbase. The Dodgers are happy to shake the hand of a man who delights in terrorizing all of LA. Just disgusting.

THIS is how I found out that our campus has a celebrity flag football game!?!?

3 words. Fugitive slave patrols.

How are we not supposed to terrified of ICE when they’re indistinguishable from these guys?
A white man in Dillard, Oregon was arrested for stopping people on the freeway to demand at gunpoint that they tell him if they were citizens. He shot and missed one + attempted to get another in his truck to bring to police. Before his spree, he called local PD to complain about "foreign" people.
Defendant contacted police before freeway shooting
Charles Glen Simmons, 53, of Dillard, is in the Douglas County Jail on $1 million bail after Thursday morning’s alleged crime spree. According to a press release from the Oregon

I never ever want to hear one more word about how linguists who don’t worship this man are somehow inferior scholars. I always knew he was anti-black because of the way he talked about sociolinguistics; he’s consistently argued that considering what actual human beings do is a waste of time.
/6 No, when society tells you to shun someone, be SKEPTICAL. Like Noam Chomsky. Noam Chomsky KNEW that it’s the dark forces of American imperialism that don’t want him to listen to a famous child rapist teach him about black people being inferior.

Watching the Grammys is just half waiting to see who is most likely to say the most explicitly political thing. So far it’s been everyone vaguely alluding to the horrors, or just proudly proclaiming that their families are immigrants.

I LOVE watching the Winter Olympics, but obviously I can’t support the U.S. regime now. So I’m looking for the least problematic (currently) nation to cheer for. Norway is in the running but crotchgate has given me some pause 😆

It hasn’t gone unnoticed that all four people arrested today, including two journalists, were Black.

And now we find out the charge is “conspiracy to violate civil rights,” a statute rooted in the Ku Klux Klan Act.

Sit with that.
