On this day in 1995, Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni environmental activists were executed by the state of Nigeria. Their legacy: challenging the power of Shell Oil and the military dictationship. Saro-Wiwa's final statement: "Neither imprisonment nor death can stop our ultimate victory."

Today in 1841, enslaved African people overpower crew of ship “The Creole” and navigate to the Bahamas where they achieve their freedom.

This two toned screen print is a tribute to those who perished during the Atlantic crossing during the slave trade.
