This Transgender Awareness Week, we come together to celebrate the resilience and bravery of the transgender community in the face of relentless attacks.

My message to you is simple:

I am with you. I love you. I will never stop fighting for you.

UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.

In short, the right doesn't waste much time whining about "Why doesn't the press cover this!!!"

Instead, they make the press cover it.
A huge part of this is shamelessness. But we also have to be honest: the Hunter thing didn't just happen.

Trump used every lever of government—especially the GOP and the House Oversight Committee—to make it happen.

And it still wouldn't have meant shit without Murdoch/Musk media obessing on it.
Donald Trump Jr. in 2021: “Those Hunter no-show no-experience board seats didn’t come without an expected return!”

Donald Trump Jr. in 2024: Gets $2.8M in stock for joining an advisory board that didn't exist until he joined it.

Not being even vaguely sarcastic:

At some point, a journalist needs to ask Johnson “you regularly claim you have no idea what your own government is doing. If we take you at your word, how are you so poorly informed, and do you this level of ignorance should disqualify you as speaker?”
Q: What's your message to the 170 US citizens who have been detained by ICE? About 20 of them are children

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know what you're talking about with the children. I haven't seen that so I'm not going to comment on it.

IMHO this article will hold up very well. Time to stop obsessing with potential AGI and dealing with the very real consequences of the LLM tech, which will never overcome its inherent limitations, but nevertheless wreak havoc.
ChatGPT and other LLMs aren't about to produce superintelligence, but if this is it, it's still changed the world. Not necessarily for the better.

I did a big picture look at AI, comparing it to search and social media, On business, politics, education, misinfo, ability to grasp reality, and more.
The Third Algorithm
ChatGPT and other generative AI isn't about to create superintelligence, but even if what we see now is it, the impact is on the scale of Google search and algorithmic social media, except maybe worse

i think the next leader of the democratic party should be someone who punches the right rhetorically harder than they hit and also supports lgbtq equality and progressive ideas. i dont think it is a unicorn or purity. i think its, to be honest, extremely middle of the road and center-leaning.

If you want to put back statues and memorials and names of Confederate traitors while tearing down museum exhibitions on slavery because they don't show the greatness of the nation... the nation whose history you're celebrating is whiteness. The kind of nationalist you are is a white nationalist.

And Democratic Party leaders still can’t stand up to this administration?! Our rights are on the line and all our party leaders offer us is silence.

I usually focus on how LLMs *don't* work, and people tell me "wait until the technology gets better."

Okay. Well, this is tech's vision for what happens when the technology gets better. THIS is what you want? This is your counter-argument? Get out of here.
I’m convinced that people like Zuckerberg do not get/actively dislike what it means to be human and are determined to inflict their terrifyingly inhuman fantasies of technology controlling our lives on the entirety of humanity

When white supremacists in Charlottesville chanted “Jews shall not replace us,” the president defended them as “very fine people.”

When a man attacked Congress in a “Camp Auschwitz” shirt, the president pardoned him.

So you understand why I’m less concerned about what a mayoral nominee didn’t say.

Brad Lander physically put his body on the line to protect a person being targeted by ICE goons, and this was the result. He’s an elected city official and mayoral candidate, but he’s also a good person. If every elected Dem showed that kind of bravery, we’d be in a much different position.
