In Kentucky, primaries are closed. That means you can only vote in the primary for the party you’re registered with. If you want a voice in Democratic primaries & a say in where our state goes next, register as a Democrat by 12/31. Your vote matters. https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/ovrweb/

my takeaway from this letter is that glenn youngkin, rector sheridan and their flunkies on the board are deeply dishonest people who are engaged, with the trump administration, in a mob-style shakedown against the university of virginia
Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Republicans now have 34 seats in the Mississippi Senate, one short of a super majority. No one expected this.

Open AI is currently building a data center in Texas that will require roughly the equivalent of the power the Hoover Dam produces to operate.

Last week the Whitehouse killed a renewable energy project that was going to produce as much powers as three Hoover Dams.

None of this makes any sense.

this is an excellent story about the trump/youngkin campaign in Virginia to remake higher ed into MAGA schools. @propublica.org details the game plan that was run at UVA and now GMU with the help of right wing extremists and right wing media.

read/ share this @propublica.org piece:
NEW: When university president Gregory Washington received notice that the Trump administration had opened an investigation into complaints of antisemitism, he was “perplexed.”

But there are signs it may be part of a coordinated campaign to oust him.

I was theoretically aware that the Trump admin has been imposing fines of $998/day for people who overstayed their removal orders, but hadn't seen it until today. As in so many other Trump/Miller immigration policies, these massive penalties are (arguably) legal but rarely done before

Even if you think the measurement error in this survey is high, say the 'true' amount is 20 or 30% less than the estimate, it's still a catastrophic loss to science, education, health, and security in America.
We polled Nature readers to ask if they were thinking of leaving the US for jobs abroad. Three-quarters of them (who said they were US-based scientists) said yes. 🧪

75% of US scientists who answered Nature poll consider leaving
More than 1,600 readers answered our poll; many said they were looking for jobs in Europe and Canada.
