Such a bummer. My favorite baseball podcast, as well as the only athletic content I consumed
Our status has regretfully shifted to "it's complicated." The Athletic will not be bringing The Roundtable back, and we are asking for permission to yammer about baseball somewhere else. The three of us still want to do it, but ... well, it's complicated.
Hey grant. What happened to the roundtable podcast? Is it still alive?

I am watching what is happening in Minneapolis on Ali Velshi and one of the ICE officers (off camera) literally says, “It’s like Call of Duty. Pretty cool huh?” as they shoot whatever it is they are shooting. Agents walking around, guns unholstered for no reason. This is insanity

When the NRA finds out that a citizen was shot and killed by Federal troops merely because he was carrying a gun, there is going to be hell to pay. This is the exact scenario they have been warning us about! These are the jack-booted government troops from which we need unfettered liberty!

Counterpoint: No, it’s not. Compete, sell, or shut up. No one forced you to buy the house and not furnish it.

The leagues that broke their unions convinced US sports fans that leagues should be collectives. They should not. Competition rules.
I don’t get this at all. Raising the bar is great. But there are limits to everything. I don’t care if the dodgers have an advantage over the Pirates or other teams who refuse to spend. But it’s a league problem if they’re putting $100M+ more on the field every day than other high-spending teams.

i don’t know what “come more naturally” means. Stop being so afraid of money. Wins are wins, rings are rings, and thinking some are more pure than others is a path to madness.
They’re taking your points and pushing them past the extremes of where they’re accurate though. Competition is great, inequality is fine and non-spenders are the real problem. But competition should come more naturally, not just from one team spending such an enormous amount more…

Pretty similar to the other leagues

Long story short, salary caps are not the key to competitive balance and parity, and the lack of one in MLB is not dragging down the sport

OK...that's all (the end)

Every team owner - every single team owner - makes money in baseball.

The owner for the Rockies has done more to "ruin" baseball (baseball is not ruined; lots of dynamic players out there) than the Dodgers ever could.

Even if it were true, I just don’t think “the Dodgers aren’t paying enough in corporate welfare” is one of baseball’s 50 biggest problems. The Dodgers put more money into the pockets of their partners than anyone else does. Stop yelling at them while they‘re carrying the league.

Please don’t ever, in any context for any reason, refer to people wealthy enough to own baseball franchises as “the poor.”
Not a shot at you, but the richest have and always will pay the most. A flat tax is regressive to the poor. Just because they pay a lot doesn’t mean it’s a good system, or that they shouldn’t have to pay more.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.
