ROY takes:
Kurtz is going to cruise in the AL. Maybe 100% of first place votes.
NL, it's so close there's really no wrong answer and no one can be "robbed." I'd probably go Baldwin but I feel like Horton might take it.

as the husband of a mahjong addict, dudes need to identify an activity that can be done relatively easily in groups with minimal financial commitment so they can get out of the house for 2-3 hours on a school night, have two beers, and shoot the shit with their buddies.
It won't be mahjong tho.

Average WAR of recent Hall of Fame ballots, by year on ballot. (Yes, getting inducted and leaving the ballot is a hell of a selection bias, but that's sort of the point -- who's left?)
Not at all hard to see Bonds and Clemens slowly cycling out, is it?

I think it's fine the Giants fired Daboll. Necessary, even.

I feel like this "Harper needs better protection to see better pitches" thing has become canon & stats just don't match.
Look at it this way.. 3 guys hit behind him >100 times. Harper's zone%, by next-batter:
Schwarber: 48.6%
JTReal: 49.7%
Bohm: 55.1% (!)
Was Bohm protecting more than Schwarbs?!

Trump, who repeatedly mocked President Biden by calling him “Sleepy Joe,” had his eyes closed, was slumped in his chair, and snored while Dr. Oz was speaking.

I think I'm surprised Woodruff got the QO. It's basically $32m for him if he takes it (he already got a $10m buyout) and he doesn't exactly have a stellar recent history of health

I'm not sure I have any terribly strong opinions either way or the other on whether Dale Murphy should be in the Hall, but I keep seeing talk about how low WAR kept him out and ... he was on the ballot continuously from 1999-2013. WAR wasn't part of that discussion. That was old school voting.

I don't feel like people have fully internalized that whenever you hear a contract figure reported in free agency, the next question has to be: OK, but what's deferred and what's the present value?
Ohtani's $700m isn't a little less than Soto's $765m, it's a *lot* less.

Excited for *another* year of rollercoaster Cody Bellinger discourse.
2017-20: young star
21-22: hurt, bad, non-tendered
23: kinda fluky rebound year
24: good-but-less-good follow-up, as expected
25: outstanding comeback .. with massive home/road splits as a Yankee
good luck valuing that!
