one reason "great power competition" is a bad description of the emerging order is that an interlinked global kleptocracy does not care about national interests or rivalries
Extraordinary WSJ reporting today that unveils the extent to which Trump, Witkoff, Kushner and US business executives are salivating over business deals with Russia while Putin’s forces kidnap Ukranian children and bomb civilians in their apartments.

This was an assassination attempt on Zelensky. It would be interesting to know where the precise info about Zelensky’s flight came from. Also, it’s not clear where the drones went. A pity the Irish navy had no ability to engage these threats.
Quite breathtaking story - military grade drones at Dublin airport which flew on the path Zelensky's plane took. The drones reached the flight path of his plane exactly the time it should have been there, but just missed it because Zelensky arrived ahead of schedule:
Four unidentified military-style drones breached no-fly zone to target Zelenskyy's arrival in Dublin
Gardaí are investigating whether the drones took off from land in Dublin or from an undetected ship.

The postal service is not a business, measuring it by revenue is the wrong frame for understanding its worth.
🚨SCOOP: Amazon is preparing to sever ties with USPS and expand its shipping network as a true coast-to-coast rival.

It could cost USPS more than *$6 billion* a year in lost revenue, and lead Amazon to dominate yet another facet of the economy.

USPS posted a *$9 billion* loss in 2025.

This feels not great.

"Interestingly, the drone squadron does not belong to one of the military services but will be operated by a joint special operation unit operating under CENTCOM."
4+ years of ridiculous hype around “Defense Tech”,

and none of the VC-backed celebrities field a system worth a solitary damn,

but the USAF somehow has Task Force Temu Shahed forward deployed and ready for war.

I know old designs stick around for a reason, but surely we can do better than this. I have to imagine that realistically engaging drones at the speed they move would likely require a tracking turret or complex optic. Seems like a mismatch of equipment for a need, unless you're a contractor bidding.
The Army is seeking contractors capable of turning the Vietnam-era 40mm belt-fed MK19 automatic grenade launcher into a drone killer, the latest effort to create or retrofit existing platforms to counter drones.

The refusal to consider DC Statehood is largely a reluctance to give DC two Senators, which itself is a tacit admission that the United States Senate is an anti-democratic institution.
Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.
