IMO, a part of this is the pluralist ontology you see within centre-left spaces - you don't get any sense of hierarchy or power. The idea of something like e.g. Galbraithian countervailing power is something lost on our modern intellectuals.

First they came for the immigrants, and I did not speak out (because the message test performed at a low percentile rank compared to other messages in our testing bank for non college men who opt into online surveys through various consumer reward programs)
okay ryan, but does it raise or lower trump's approval rating among people who sign up to take surveys in a digital ad-testing production system? that is the only question that matters

Some liberals are descending on DC this week under the heading of "Liberalism for the 21st Century."

My thoughts: Liberalism has always oriented itself against an enemy and its perceived threats to freedom. Today that threat is clear: ascendant fascism. #LibCon2025
Liberalism for the 21st Century
We must stop shadowboxing old enemies and focus on reactionaries holding the daggers to our throats today.

Why do the jobs numbers get revised?

our markets and policymakers want data NOW but employer data dribbles in over months

1st estimate is based on the 75% of employers who respond promptly

Updates occur as more data rolls in: 95% response rate by final revision 1/N

Math Is Quietly in Crisis over NSF Funding Cuts
A 72 percent reduction in federal funding is devastating to math research. The American Mathematical Society is offering $1 million in backstop grants—but it’s likely not enough.

Here's one: Fighting against arbitrary power on principle, not only out of self-interest—making an act of self-preservation into one also of defiance and persuasion.
