An exceptionally stupid and contingent set of circumstances made Stephen Miller the most influential ideologue in the US. There is no future for the left or liberalism that does not take as a core mission ensuring he is punished for his crimes & no one as hateful as him is ever close to power again.

This is a radio station out of Fort Meyers, a part of the country that looks like this and is going to be underwater before basically anywhere else. This feels like a death drive thing to me.

“it is illegal for you not to like me”
This is the logical and inevitable conclusion of the last decade of elite media "free speech" discourse.

I do think probably the most influential demographic/cultural shift of the last decade or two is that rural America has become culturally and political homogenous practically overnight

ICE have revealed themselves to be nothing more than the partisan militia of MAGA. When Trump became president, he did not "execute Order 66." They have been yearning for the Day of the Rope since their founding, and all Trump did was give free rein to their basest impulses.

increasingly i just feel these people chose a side and that’s really all we need to know about them. there were people with beliefs close to fascism that still opposed the axis and even died doing so

the 'conspiracies are actually real' rpg was very common in the 1990s but I think it's considerably harder to do today because conspiracy beliefs (and the attendant, inevitable anti-semitism) are an obviously malignant political force
I love learning about the little ins and outs of conspiracy and occult lore - the key is to always remember it's not actually real, at best it's real in a "this is a belief some people act on".

Once you actually start thinking there are Secret Masters out there, things go... bad.

I remember the phrase "they can't be allowed to melt back into society" re: the de-Baathification of Iraq after the war there. Like everything about that experience, the attempt was cynical, stupid, and botched. But there really should be a plan about what we do with guys like these in the future.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

They really do seem like the movie equivalent of Nickelback, where no one you know will say they’ve seen them but statistically SOMEONE is buying all those tickets.
these movies are fascinating to me, none of the people i hang around with in real life have ever seen them, i've never heard any of those people talk about them, and my friend group includes a lot of people who see and talk about movies often, but i *know* that tons of people go see and enjoy them

The mass intelligentsia is a sleeping leviathan that has just begun to wake, more and more are saying it.
See also the persistent anger among conservatives about seeing gay or interracial couples in TV commercials. The government doesn't decide what's on your TV, but to them "the government" is a parent-like concept that substitutes for anyone who runs anything in society

The combination of qualified immunity and the lack of any actual duty of care for the public has been, uh, not good for society.
via Breaking911, here are the radio transmissions from Providence police responding to the Brown University shooting

Officers standing outside not entering during the critical moments, allowed the shooter to escape

The public wants police to take on risk but there is no incentive for them to do so

there is one and only one political strategy, and that is: “hang trump like an anchor around the neck of every single elected republican and the party itself.” no ‘friends across the aisle.’ no ‘the fever will break.’ anyone not on board with that has to go. no exceptions

"assertively moral" is one way to put it
