i love looking at the numbers from wakefield's rookie year. it's like he's from another galaxy. he threw a 146 pitch CGSHO with 10 strikeouts and five walks, then threw 144 pitches in his second start, then threw 123 in his third.
i'm sure there are other examples but i can really only think of tim wakefield as someone who came up this late in the year and make a legit run at rookie of the year
