I feel fixated on the image of the succubus in the same way I feel fixated on the concept of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, which is to say these are both ideas of womanhood that are constantly framed from the POV of the men who consume and are consumed by them, which I am utterly disinterested in.

I just had the line "thank you for curing me of my ridiculous obsession with love" stuck in my head for reasons that aren't worth going into and then I rewatched that scene from Moulin Rouge and damn it is way colder than I'd remembered

One of the things about being someone with well-managed mental illness is that people with less well-managed mental illness will assume you have the capacity to handle them and it’s like… oh no honey, all my energy is used up on myself.

This describes a solid 50% of all the writers I talked to at the library last year as writer-in-residence
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

Had a good swim at the Y with a friend! I’m really pleased that I was able to swim 2000 yds in just over an hour all on my own without pushing aggressively or being challenged by a coach.
