Also keep in mind all the revenue sharing that came from luxury tax that the Pirates and the A's got is now gone

Using the 2025 payroll numbers, if you set the first tax threshold, 241 million, as the hard cap, you're taking 502 million dollars from the players. If you want to give that back, it takes a floor of 167 million to get there
“Well there would obviously be a floor”

Either:
-The floor is so high a team like the Pirates would never agree
-The cap is so high that it wouldn’t matter at all in terms of competitive balance

Not going to happen

as always the rubric for "what side should i be on" with regards to *anything* is:

1. Find the side Bob Nutting is on.
2. Take the opposite position.

Consider this rubric while discussing a salary cap in baseball.

during the practice games when i was there i learned (as this article concludes) that jeopardy contestants, amy in particular, are NOT bad at sports, and i was screwed.

i mostly try to stay away from heated hall of fame discourse, but i really do not think you can put beltran in and leave the steroid guys out and consider yourself a legitimate operation

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

there are not many sports events that you could witness and say, "that's more improbable than the pirates winning another world series," but indiana football national championship is certainly on the list

the end of this game (frederica ending) is insane (both complimentary and not complimentary)
i might be the only person playing triangle strategy in 2026 but roland is a true all-time video game dipshit, incredible run for that character.

update: dan orlovsky is wondering if any coaches are going to quite their current jobs to coach the bills or ravens while adam shefter is forcefully shaking his head and texting live on television
watching the dumb mike greenburg morning yakfest is pointless almost 90% of the time but watching these doofuses react in real time to mcdermott being fired with zero prep is incredible television.

i know the final score was what it was last week, but cj stroud legitimately almost played badly enough to lose to THAT steeler team, i dunno what else anyone was expecting this week

I didn't know you were allowed to gain eight yards at once on the Texans

beyond the obvious here, one thing that i can never shake from the last steeler coaching search was the absolute certainty that everyone had that russ grimm was a slam dunk future head coach. i'm not sure he ever even got interviewed by anyone else for a head coaching gig.
Found this article from the Steelers HC coach search in 2007. This was under “Missed opportunities in the hunt for a coach”

The “pretty good” coaches at ND and NYJ were Charlie Weis and Eric Mangini, respectively.

The “two minorities” were Mike Tomlin and Ron Rivera.

the only games scheduled on the same day as army-navy last year were the Bucked Up LA Bowl Hosted By Gronk and the Celebration Bowl (HBCUs). wonder which one he's mad about.

i have lots of questions about art II and the rooneys in general as owners in the modern NFL, but the one thing that i really don't expect them to do is to do something significantly different than they've done in the past in hiring a head coach. art II was team president when they hired tomlin!
anyway, i legitimately think the most shocking thing the steelers could do is hire arthur smith as head coach.

it's also not *completely* apparent to me that khan sucks as a GM. he's clearly better than end-stage colbert and inherited a bit of a mess from colbert.

why do people say things like this? everyone was 100% convinced of this last time, too, to the point that russ grimm assumed he was hired and leaked it to the trib, who ran with it.
I’m keeping an eye on the Steelers because that organization has basically never brought in outside voices. Not in front office or on the coaching staff. So if they keep Omar Kahn and hire like Arthur fucking Smith, that’s bad.
