you have to go to #13 on the team's all-time WAR list to find a pitcher who pitched after the 1920s and only one player in their top 24 is someone who pitched after 1970: www.baseball-reference.com/teams/PIT/

been waiting for literally any story about clase to mention this rather than to just idly speculate on what would cause a millionaire to spike pitches for tens of thousands of dollars
Between this and his involvement in Finlete it sure sounds like he needed every cent he could find for things you are welcome to speculate about

everything has become so stupid
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

i'm pulling this out of my replies not to pick on anyone but because i feel like everyone who's saying, "IKF should've just steamrolled through home at full speed" ignores the fact that guys running hard often slide into home even if there's no play for this specific reason.
i actually don't remember if anyone taught me this but i think everyone has an (understandable) aversion of running full speed through home plate because it's not raised and so it's easier to miss and easier to hurt yourself on

i think the thing that gets me is that even if IKF was a step or maybe two steps further down the line, he's still closer to the base than muncy!
I absolutely will never, ever stop thinking about the play where Jays kept IKF's lead short. There was a ~0% chance of Varsho lining out to 3B. There was a ~0% chance of Smith potentially throwing the World Series into left field on a back pick. So much fun to think through.
