One of my favorite genres of sportswriting is "knowledgeable person just explains in a calm voice why some dude is about to get fired"
From earlier, at Y! Sports: I wrote about Nico Harrison, downside risk, and the bills coming due: yhoo.it/4p18PZc
Mavericks GM Nico Harrison on the hot seat? Rumblings are growing louder in Dallas — wonder why
Multiple reports suggest Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison’s seat might finally be getting a little toasty.

I do think this is a great point about Alabama. They are WAY better at running the ball in the 4Q than any other time of the game, and stopping it. Has resulted in some gorgeous late sequences vs. LSU and South Carolina. And is a thing you can grab on too if you're a Bama fan. Imo, small sample
Alabama’s defense has actually greatly improved particularly in closing games out in the second half
And a time of possession team that strings together 6 7 8 minute scoring drives you would expect to be efficient in the run but almost isn’t and they are a possession team thatputs together drives

Alabama is not in the top 65 nationally in EPA/rush on offense or defense against the P4 (or overall, for that matter). This team is not winning the national championship. You can see the problem coming from 10 miles away imo www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_H3...

Sad mentality, really surprised he would say this out loud and thought it would remain confined to randoms on Twitter. It's true this game has no effect on Pitt making or missing the playoff but what a thing to say before your program's biggest national platform game in like 20 years

Been watching Yellowstone for the first time. I never considered how annoying it would be to get hooked on a 2010s TV show that isn't in the "prestige" TV world and thus doesn't have a good Vulture or AV Club etc. recap for every episode

These Steelers aren't even good enough to fulfill their manifest destiny of losing by 24 points on wildcard Saturday after whichever AFC South team loses in the prior TV window

Nice QB there you have, Chargers. Shame if late-stage Mike Tomlin came to your house and got him into a game with a score of 3-2

I wonder if Kyler Murray ever thinks about how he could be in the prime of his arbitration years right now, making $5.4 million to play 81 games a year in Sacramento while batting in front of Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz

In a sea of tech products that offer more than we ask for and don't work that well, let's take time to applaud Apple's new(ish?) sports app, which is called "Sports." Very functional! It works!

I want Pitt to host a CFP Playoff game just to see how much we can mess they can make of the Acrisure field (the Steelers are in Detroit that weekend, but they do play the Monday Night before against the Dolphins, so a quick turnaround.)

This probably isn't going to happen but is, as far as I can see, a very legit possibility. Especially now that Duke's Week 12 opponent, UVA, has an injured QB
Actually, I need to amend this statement...
Duke almost full controls its ACC titles hopes, despite being 5-4.
But if Duke wins the ACC and James Madison wins out, there is a very high probability the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, Sun Belt and American champs will make the playoff with the ACC left out.

Duke is now 5-4 and almost controls its own playoff fate (it owns tiebreakers in a lot of ACC scenarios).
Remaining games:
vs UVA
at UNC
vs Wake Forest
All very winnable games. Might even be favored in each of them.
