And susceptibility to that isn’t about intelligence or education. It’s about wanting acceptance. Elon Musk isn’t stupid; he has the resources to think independently. But he desperately wants acceptance from the public at large, which he defines as his Twitter feed. So when this meme started spreading, I knew he’d eventually join in because his personality makes him susceptible to this kind of group pressure.

Maybe it’s the newness of the profession; in terms of recency, I slot it in with UX designer and the guys in the Philippines who respond to OnlyFans messages. When asked about my job by strangers at parties, I tell them I “work in media.” I make sure to say that in the kind of way that forbids questioning, like I’m the guy who bathes Bari Weiss or a janitor at the New York Post.

UAB closing in on 0-3 in the American, and their best games have been a mixture of 1) almost losing to FCS teams but not quite and 2) being somewhat competitive for a while against good AAC teams. Gotta be getting to the end here now

Finebaum and Travis are not being that canny about this, and they may not even have to be. It’d benefit Finebaum for people to believe that ESPN, part of Disney, has sidelined him for airing conservative political views. That would be helpful for a Senate candidacy in Alabama, and Travis has been a terrific choreography partner. Finebaum has been less enthusiastic about discussing this standoff in live, uncontrolled formats: A caller to his radio show on Monday had the line cut when he wound up a comment or question about the host’s reportedly being pulled from other ESPN shows.

LMU AD Craig Pintens welcomes new Maryland AD Jim Smith to the inaugural episode of CRO.ticker’s new Margins of Victory podcast. Smith shares some ideas for revenue generation in this new era of college sports, including this about how the Terps will approach seating and ticketing: “One thing that you're seeing a lot more of in the pro world…that I think we can quickly transition into the collegiate space is kind of the stratification of the facilities and creating different products for different consumers. I think baseball's done that really well. I think the (Atlanta) Braves have done it exceptionally well. Stratification can be by row, it can be by seat, it can be by section, and I can say at Maryland, I'm not sure we've really looked at it that way. So, I think that there's real opportunity to show value while raising prices and driving more revenue. … It really starts with how many different products do you have to offer, right? And how do you squeeze the middle more out by creating better product offerings in that middle to where it is more appealing at a little higher price? And I just keep going back to the Braves because it's just where I came from. We just added a right field club, right? It's not really a club, but it's a semi-club, but we took middle inventory that was roughly…$30 ticket, created a different product out there, made it a $90 ticket, sold it on a season basis. And all of a sudden, we've squeezed the middle again, which then creates demand somewhere else in the ballpark. And I think that's how stratification can work to create demand in the middle.” Smith also posits that “I think dynamic pricing has been underutilized in college athletics and I think we can do a lot more of it. I think AI can definitely help. We talked a lot about AI, and it wasn't just because I knew the audience. The president is an engineer. He's very much into AI. We've been using some AI. So I'm a believer that that's a tool to help us grow.
