I ended up on a SFFH writer’s list and so I say, welcome! To all who decided to drop by. You may not decide to stay, but I’ll tell you that polite unfollows are all part of social media. If BSky is your staying light place, no harm, no foul.

Just remember—we can mute words here. 1/

Sharing because I feel the same exact way. Thank you all for keeping me coming back, not to argue but to learn.
I'll say it again and again, but it's such a pleasure to chat with all of you on Bsky.

After the last two years on Twitter, the X years, it feels so good to be able to just discuss things - even when we don't agree.

Rather than a boxing match, an evening at the bar. 👌

YOU COME FOR ME LIKE THIS ON MY OWN FEED?!? *attempts to close cupboard over mountain of rustic pottery*
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Here's another XTwitter scammer account outed by geolocation--this one refers writers to a (real) literary agent with a fake address, then impersonates the agent to recommend "professional editor" services

This is the version of the post that everyone needs to see. And all you readers/authors despairing of non-comprehension, etc, we are gaining new fans of fantasy and SF. It might not be the fantasy or SF you personally read, but they're reading and buying where they weren't before.
It hits different reading this whole thread.

Because yes, Seanan vs. the alligator lizard was a True Tale!
It's time for everyone's favorite chronologically unanchored holiday, The Story of the Lizard in the Leg.
Because people keep asking, the Story of The Lizard In That Dude's Leg. Some caveats:

1. This happened more than twenty years ago. There are no pictures. There was a small article in a local paper with, again, no pictures (I'm assuming that's what the producers of 9-1-1: LONE STAR found).

A beautiful story. Thank you.

My first typewriter was an ancient black Royal which actually belonged to my mother. I took an Olivetti Lettera 32 with me to college - a graduation gift, from my parents. My last typewriter was an IBM Selectric 3. I loved them all.

Also out today: part 4 of 5 of @garius.bsky.social's remarkable history of the California Clipper, the feat of commercial aviation that brought a Pan Am flying boat the wrong way around the world from Auckland to LaGuardia.

This time: it's Christmas in Sri Lanka.

I went looking for this episode, and then my month became weird, so two installments of @garius.bsky.social's tale of the California Clipper tonight.

Trapped by Pearl Harbor, forced to fly home the long way around--which had never been done before by a commercial plane.

We want a movie!
In 1941, Pan Am's California Clipper had to do something no commercial flight had done before: circumnavigate the world.

In Part 3 of our series looking at her journey, the crew must work out, mid-air, how to fly her on regular gasoline. Something her Wright Cyclone engines were never designed for.
Into the unknown: The remarkable journey of the California Clipper, Part 3
Unable to source military-grade aviation fuel, our crew are forced to cross the Indian Ocean using regular gasoline. Something no Boeing 314 has ever flown on before.

somebody on here suggested awhile back that a pretty compelling 2028 Democrat campaign promise would be "on day one I will deploy a WPA-scale army of forensic accountants across every square inch of the federal government" and I think about that every day
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.
