Sometime wanderer. When not wandering, probably north of you. Wildlife photographer (they/them)
Pinned
Shamelessly reposting some of mine because I have early morning anxiety and feel the need to prove my credentials when grumbling about somebody with a much larger audience 😂

Finally working on my #CorsetRevivalProject piece. The plan is to cover it with #embroidery imagery of #ArcticWhaling - where the #whalebone used for support came from. First panel will be a map showing where the whaling took place in the #Arctic around Svalbard and Greenland.

I'm not going to play the game because I'm a travelling wildlife photographer, which is cheating, but, if you are the kind of person who introduces themselves with "Hello, nice to meet you, here are 5 really cool animals I've seen," then *please please please* come say hi. We should hang out.
Introduce yourself with 5 animals you've seen in the wild:
- Beluga whale
- kiwi
- whio
- eel
- kangaroo
Introduce yourself with 5 animals you've seen in the wild:
- Cassowary
- Salt-water crocodile
- King brown snake
- Frilled-neck lizard
- Elk

Fun fact about me is that I live on a desert island in the broadest possible sense of the term.

Also, I have only just realised this 😂

An excellent social bonding experience as the majority of the millennial population of the island sat in the dark and sobbed in unison

Skiable levels of snow in the valley at long last, so Boy Dog and I are going on an adventure.

(Going to teach him to skijor, please wish me an unbelievable amount of luck and patience, he is not bright 😂)

Just to be clear, life up here is hard. The day/night cycle is broken, the water is toxic, the power supply is fractious, the snow is aggressive, the bears are huge, housing is at crisis point and the hospital is under equipped.

It's also fucking magical and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Acceptable sort of Friday 8am dog walk

Polar night progress report: 11.5 weeks until the sun rises on the island, and then another 3 weeks after that before it is visible in town over the mountains. It's been 4.5 weeks since it set.

(Don't ask how I'm coping with the dark because the answer is the sky looks like this and I am thriving)

Wouldn't change it for the world but also my lunchtime stroll (pictured) was an experience today. It was warm* when I left, so I only put a fleece on and then the wind was a bastard.

*Extremely relative, -4°C. The body adapts to perpetual cold with surprising speed.

Got my first AI accusation of aurora season, which is much later than the last two years so congrats on the character growth I guess 😆

I want bsky to roll out a reply option that allows me to specifically limit who can reply to a skeet *and tell them* like yes this is open to all replies except for you, Brian

My favourite thing about this photo is that nobody asked any of you what you could see in it but goddamn you're all determined to tell us 😂

(Said with nothing but love and respect, I'm having a great time reading through the insights into everybody else's mind)

White fringing in one and FAE's* in the other. Don't even bother speaking to me, I'm too busy being smug.

*Fragmented aurora-like emissions, the floating green spots in the middle that don't seem to be attached to anything

Right. Erm. The sky is on fire.

Do you know what I really appreciate about life up here? Socially, it's super safe. I can jog alone in the darkness with my headphones in, or walk home from the bar alone with my phone out, and never feel unsafe for a moment.

(The trade off for that is the bears, but that's a different problem)

Do you know what the most fun Norwegian word is to say?

Klovn

(See also: klovner, klovnen, klovnene)

Clown

(+ clowns, the clown, the clowns respectively)

Somebody has *badly* colour-corrected one of my images and posted it as a reply to me and I'm not being weird, right? That is weird behaviour?
