Moon so bright we're casting shadows in the polar night.

39 days since sunset, 73 days until sunrise

Cosy sauna sort of lunch break

Just to be clear, life up here is hard. The day/night cycle is broken, the water is toxic, the power supply is fractious, the snow is aggressive, the bears are huge, housing is at crisis point and the hospital is under equipped.

It's also fucking magical and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Acceptable sort of Friday 8am dog walk

Polar night progress report: 11.5 weeks until the sun rises on the island, and then another 3 weeks after that before it is visible in town over the mountains. It's been 4.5 weeks since it set.

(Don't ask how I'm coping with the dark because the answer is the sky looks like this and I am thriving)

Wouldn't change it for the world but also my lunchtime stroll (pictured) was an experience today. It was warm* when I left, so I only put a fleece on and then the wind was a bastard.

*Extremely relative, -4°C. The body adapts to perpetual cold with surprising speed.

sky's haunted

White fringing in one and FAE's* in the other. Don't even bother speaking to me, I'm too busy being smug.

*Fragmented aurora-like emissions, the floating green spots in the middle that don't seem to be attached to anything

Right. Erm. The sky is on fire.

Proof because I blocked them after you all immediately validated me 😂

(Btw the alt text is bemoaning the presence of an impossible blue tint in some of the greens)

Swoosh!

Four minutes in one second from my happy place. Featuring some extremely delicate aurora.

Fox/dayside is my favourite of the season so far
November 21, 2025 at 6:16 PM
I could do something sensible and productive with the dark season. Or, I could spend my time skiing into the darkness with too much equipment and turning out the most ridiculously self-indulgent arctic wildlife/aurora borealis double exposures 😁
November 21, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Back in my stride and there is literally nothing you can do to stop me, don't waste your time trying 😂
November 21, 2025 at 4:27 PM
If you're looking for a sign to run away, the sky is a little bit clearer up here
November 21, 2025 at 4:25 PM
We had a good 'when did you realise you weren't heterosexual?' chat this morning. Some deep emotional responses and some, like mine, not so much 😂

Basically, Pink released Try This, which had the attached album art, and 12 year old me had an out of body experience.

It doesn't always look like that. Sometimes it looks like this
