Don't want cookies? (Liar.) You can order cookies that they give out to local heroes, which at this point is much of Minnesota, so don't overthink it.

I post this link merely as a cultural curiosity and not so that anyone could print one if, say, whistles were banned. Obviously that would be wrong.
Who knew a retractable desktop vuvuzela is something we’d all want someday?

Lisa Sutton wants to prove she's a tough enough engineer to manage a remote hockey camp construction site. "Bruiser" McKay, the general manager, thinks she's in over her head & wants to protect her.

But, Bruiser wonders. . . Who'll protect him from "fragile" Lisa?

Winning battles wins wars. To believe otherwise is the worst sort of brain rot. There are going to be a lot of bad days between now and Trumpism's demise, so enjoy the wins we do have.
“Winning a battle doesn’t matter because the war is still being fought” is fucking doomerism.
“Sure, the Nazis just surrendered in Stalingrad, but it doesn’t matter because Hitler is still in charge.”

There are people trying to stop others from using whistles, and next they'll say it's ableism.

As your disability advocate friend, I will be the first with serious sensory sensitivity to say that I would rather be in pain than someone get abducted, or shot.

Block/mute this argument, it's an op.

Interesting.

Something I never considered.
This is exactly right. If he does it, that would be very bad, but the practical effect would be underwhelming. It's not actually a "ha ha I win, we're a military dictatorship now" button. Same reason they've backed off using the Guard. They want bloodlust fascist thugs and our troops mostly aren't.
The threat of invoking the Insurrection Act is way more powerful than actually doing it, and anyone who thinks doing it is a good idea has a terminal case of Twelve Year Old Brain where the victory is that the Army does what I want I win forever because they’re the tough guys from the Army.

A reminder
Americans have a habit of trying to compare all authoritarianism to Nazi Germany. I think in some ways i think it is comforting to view authoritarianism as a foreign ideology. If you want to understand our current authoritarian moment, you need to look to our own past, not to Europe 1/x

You know what‘s really smart about this other than communicating about the current situation?

Communicating the value of a department that is vital to civilization but that is so rarely acknowledged, the sanitation department, which also highlights the value of government.
