Once again I ask activists and allies to watch this documentary. It's on Netflix in the US, find it where you can. It is so well done and shows you what we're fighting for.

Writers, this is pretty important.
The book club scam has taken an exciting new leap forward. I got one today from a "curated literary platform and newsletter" that, unusually, offered a link to its website. I'm in edits, so obviously I took the opportunity to procrastinate. /1

Kudos to the mayors who are leading soft secessions. Soft secession means “…states, cities, and municipalities quietly building the capacity to govern without federal cooperation, so that when the federal government turns hostile, they already have the infrastructure to say no.”

Yeah except when do they shut down an airport for 10 days? Then again Trump has no respect for his citizenry and loves to show it.
re: the el paso thing, I will say as a defense nerd that the answer is probably very, very stupid and benign

but given [gestures at world] there is of course always a chance it is very, very stupid and awful

I have never added up all my expenses for medical care including premiums: premiums plus deductibles plus copays must be at least $1,000 a month. And guess what happens when you have a mandatory ambulance ride and your insurance company isn't contracted with the company your city is contracted with.

!!! No explanation except vague special security concerns. No notice to airlines or passengers. If we were going to use military action in Mexico, it would include closing the airport called the “gateway to Mexico.”

In the USA, it's almost like school shootings have become memory holed. We remember some of the big ones but so many just disappear down the river. They are far too everyday.

Ending today with a bit of good news.

Turns out that telling the military not to break the law is...not breaking the law. Glad a grand jury could clear that up.

Goodnight 💚

Holy cow, the request for the corner to recuse herself? That is really bold. CW about a parent murdering his daughter. What a horrible human. And imagine being his other daughters in reading this about him.

ICE chief Todd Lyons testified today that ICE has arrested 379,000 people since Trump came to office, of which 8,700 were suspected gang members or known suspected terrorists. That's 2%. And as we know from legal proceedings, they're wrong on their claims about gang membership about 3 times out of 4

I love reading about making cities better for pedestrians and bicycles even though my orthopedist would kill me if I ever got on a bike. (I wish trikes were easier to manage, too hard to store at home, too hard to park while out and about.)
If you haven’t LISTENED to this yet & you care about how to ACTUALLY make cities better, this might be the truth-telling interview you’ve been waiting for. Jason from #NotJustBikes interviews @brenttoderian.bsky.social & boy do they get real and go deep on what works AND DOESN’T WORK.

Please share.

elderly politicians with lots of money who absolutely do not understand tech have already taken so much from us: we should not let them take this
I’m glad to see people protesting Discord forcing IDs for age verification, but what I need everyone to understand is that there’s immense bipartisan pressure to make the entire internet like this, and they are likely going to succeed unless something drastic happens

Besides how freaking weird and dramatic it is, people who want to fly to and from El Paso or even nearby, like White Sands, are probably going to have to go through Albuquerque, hours away. Sucks if you had plans.
